We've had him for 4 years and he SEEMS to be fine now. I let him heat up on the door to our oven for about an hour every day. I don't know anyone with this type of lizard, so am hoping for the best. Websites aren't too helpful. Would like advice from someone who actually has a uromastyx egyptius. Thanks!

They can go for a long while without lights but that is a little risky since they need the UV. If its only been five days he'll be alright! For the temperature, the risk is that if it goes under 15celsius, he might go into hibernation. If it gets any lower than 10 it might kill him. So five days without the basking 40 degrees isnt too bad. If it happens again you could arange him to get some direct sunlight into his tank but make sure it doesnt go higher than 40. Or you can take him out and put him on your skin (on your stomach for exemple) to keep him warm. Human body is 37 so that can help a lot!

They can go for weeks without light- not very healthy, but they can survive. Heat is another thing. Depends on how cool it gets. Low temperatures may cause respiratory problems. If it has been 5 days, i would take it to a vet for a check up. Just explain what happened with the power.

Next time put a flashlight on him and heat some water put it in water bottles and put the bottles on the bottom of the cage then put a pillowcase or towel over it this should give them the heat and for light i would try to get them as close to the window and having direct sunlight as possible.
