Okay. So I want to buy my boss and my assistant something for Christmas, but i'm stumped as to what. We work for a Greenhouse, so something like a plant would be silly. My boss has anything and everything he needs, and my assistant is a new, single mother and needs all the help she can get. Anyway. What are some ideas, please something other than gift cards or homemade cookies, that will show how much i care and appreciate the chance to know and work with them?

Its not that i dont like gift cards, its just more like they seem so impersonal, and i'm the type of person that likes to give gifts that people are like WOW! or THANK YOU.

I love the idea of offering to keep the assistants child. If you have the means give her a gift card too. I would love that, and I'm a married mom.

For the boss - how about tickets to an event he'd like ( a christmas show, or a basketball game???) A real christmas wreath is also a dignified gift (if you dont sell them at your store). Otherwise perhaps a nice "coffetable" book on his interests (travel destination, rainforest, lewis and clark or whatever)
..... or be philanthropic. Buy a milk package from hefier international on his behalf. Or donate to salvation army, a cause he cares bout

Good luck It is hard to buy for adults when most of us have all we need.

Food or Homemade Treats

Cheese basket
Mixed nuts basket
Extra-sized basket filled with his/her favorite snack
Lunch out, with all co-workers chipping in to pay for the boss's meal
Case of favorite soda, tea, sparkling water
Favorite coffee: Why not grind a few pounds of your boss's favorite coffee, set the bags in a nice basket, and decorate with a lovely bow around the basket? Your boss can refrigerate or freeze any extra to keep it fresh.
Fresh Fruit Salad
Boss's favorite cookies
Pumpkin bread/muffins/scones (perfect for this time of year)
Pot-Luck Lunch

Miscellaneous

Pewter/Stainless Steel Sculptures - There are some really neat ones out there based on occupation. For example, a great one is a psychiatrist's office with a patient on the sofa! How about golfers? Computer junkies? Programmers? Teachers?
Trophy - Find a local shop to engrave "Boss of the Year" on a trophy. Have each person in the department sign a card and list one quality they each admire about the boss. (You can each find just one, can't you?)
Plant/Bouquet/Balloons
Concert Tickets (Make sure your boss and his/her spouse would be available to attend.)
Favorite Sports Tickets

Gift Certificates

Pet Lovers can't help but buy special things for their beloved pet(s)
Readers might love a certificate for Books, Digests, Magazines
Shoppers usually have a favorite place to shop ... where is it?
Spa, Manicure, Pedicure
Favorite Beauty Shop
Health & Beauty
Movie
Opera
Theatre
Crafts - Is there a special 'craft' your boss loves? A shop he/she frequents?
Volunteer Work - Does your boss need/wear special equipment/clothing?
Sports Shop

Go to www.gifts.com. When you get there, you can use the shop by personality option which lets you pick whether you are shopping for a man, woman, girl, or boy & then it will take you thru a series of questions to get an idea of what kind of person he/she is. When you get thru that a lot of gift ideas will pop up. Even if you don't find exactly what you are seeking, it'll help get your ideas flowing. Good luck~

Get something for your bosses desk. Something really nice and fancy like a desk clock or picture frame. That way he will keep it out all year long.
