If you buy a stock you are betting that it will go up at some point. If you buy an option you are betting that it will go up by at least a certain amount by a certain date.

The opposit hold for short selling and buying puts.

The main difference between options and buy or selling the security is the amount of risk and the cost. Buying options involves an additonal cost but limited risk.

Betting is done in New Jersey and Nevada. You do not bet on stock but you can sort of hedge your intuition on the overall index on whether or not it will gain or lose. You can also try day trading if you are really adventurous.

I am the Fringe and the stock market is for those on the inside or those with money to burn.

Put options are there if you think the stock will go up, call options are there if you think the price will go down and iorn condors allow you to make a profit when the stock price doesn't move.
