Sorry, bilgenets, the Cubs are not a championship team next season. Despite the additions of Alfonso Soriano, Ted Lilly and Sweet Lou, these will only add combined wins of maybe 11-12 games.
you also re-signed the fading Kerry Woods, didn't ya? Well, he's good for at most 3 wins next year, huh?

The Chicago Cubs need major help on the right side of the infield, all offense, and in the bullpen, especially mid-inning relievers. Also, if they could get the wind to blow out to right, every game, then that'll add a few more wins, as well...
Look for the Cubs to improve, to maybe, MAYBE 3rd place, most likely 4th place, in the NL Central Division.

Ain't Baseball just the very best Game ever??

Only to Cubs fans.Ted Lilly? Is he the same guy with a 49-48 record. You're not talking Cy Young there,or at least the best lefty available,Barry Zito. The Cubs are seriously short on pitching and Soriano doesn't pitch. He is going to put up some numbers, but he is a fairly young player who is now on his fourth team. Why is that?
Aramis Ramirez isn't a clutch hitter and Derrick Lee has been injured. There are your big three hitters, you still have 5 spots(and the pitchers spot)in the lineup.Any leadoff hitter there? How about someone to steal a few bases?
The Cubs need to get front-line pitchers(still waiting on Prior and Wood?) to make a serious run at even their division championship. And as far as Piniella goes,he was great in New York with the Yankees, but your sister could manage that team to 90 wins. What did he do in Seattle,or better still,Tampa Bay?Sorry Cubdom, the only way you get to the World Series is to buy a ticket.

No. The Cubs are cursed. Ted Lilly definately isn't worth what they are paying him. Wood and Prior will get hurt again and the Cubs will finish in third place with 81 wins and 81 losses.

Barring the unforeseen, which as a Cubs fan means a lot of hope, there's no reason why they can't compete next year. The Cards won the world series with an 83 win season, and they've made the right adjustments. So here's hoping there are no more collisions knocking out our best player for the season.

I guess if the RED SOX won a world series, ANYTHING is possible, but I still don't think they are good enough and think Ted Lilly is average at best. I do like Soriano and Ramirez, but the curse of the billy goat will continue...

No they are not. They have a solid offense now, but I just do not think they will have the pitching. Even wtih Lilly, they need some more solid arms. I do not think they can really count on Prior, given his struggles the last 2 years. And of course - they ARE the Cubs, so they are bound to mess things up one way or another! :O)

Nope. Pinella is old and will get frustrated and go crazy with Aramis Ramirez and the all the youngsters he's going to have to deal with, Lilly is a .500 pitcher at best, and if he gets out of the gates slow, the fans will turn on them after all the money they spent. The only way to tell is to wait and see.

I believe the cubs were a championship caliber team the past few years but they had no body on there bench to help down the stretch.. with the new additions i'd watch out for them..
GO CUBS

Possibly, but you have to remember, the Cubs spent lots of money on people like the Yankees and the Yanks haven't won a WS in quite a while.

But playoff contendors DEFINATELY

soriano is huge. i am phillies fan and if they would have gotten him i would be saying the same thing especially since the added garcia a proven 15 wins or more guy. but yes is the answer to your question. soriano is huge but lilly makes it sweeter. though prior and wood will have to be alot more healthy then lately been
