Research into automobile accidents have proven beyond any doubt that the wearing of seat belts do prevent more serious injuries (and lately the advantage of airbags in vehicles do so even more!) There are obviously exceptions, like when your car falls into deep water and you somehow struggle to loosen the seat belts, you may drown, or in cases of fire, you may loose consciousness before you can unbuckle, yet these kinds of occurrences are less frequent than i.e. rolling your car and falling out because you weren't buckled in! In countries where the wearing of seatbelts is mandatory, such as South Africa where I live, it has saved lives. I hope this helps!

Hi
To write this essay effectively you would first have to brainstorm your ideas and thoughts on paper . In order to decide should seat belts be required by law , start with the pros and cons of seat belts for example what can happen if seat belts are not used as opposed to what can happen when they are in use. To take it a step further do some statistical research on seatbelt usage in car accidents or overall use . Find out how the seatbelt was invented for your educational purposes or you may even include this in your paper .
Good Luck and I hope this helped !!

Have you checked your local Bureau of Motor Vehicles website. Of course in some place it is called the Department of Motor Vehicles! They have a lot of statistics about seat belts and their roles in accidents. Many insurance companies also have websites that talk about driver safety etc.
Of course if you're willing to do thing the old fashioned way then head out to your local library and ask them to help you. They can find you all sorts of resources on the internet etc.

If you have the time try doing some research first and go from there. It's the best thing to do and it always works.

i'm not saying there should be a death penalty for stupidity (in this case, not wearing seatbelts), but let's just NOT make any laws about it, and let the problem solve itself. --KIDDING. :D that gallie JUST before me has the right idea, though :-)
