The laptop is currently using 1024 x 768. It has S Video and VGA ports.

If it was to be connected to an external widescreen display (16:10), would the laptop be able to support it as in display the widescreen resolution on the display correctly and not the normal resolution (4:3) the laptop currently displays on its own screen?

It'll be set up with the mirror feature so that whatever is on the laptop, will display on the widescreen display so each time the widescreen display is used, the laptop will be closed.

I don't know about drivers etc, but it's an Acer 1355XC and the display adapters it tells me are VIA/S3G KN400/KM400.

Any help on the matter is much appreciated.

Thanks.

I found some specs for the laptop, and I noticed where it says Video, it has "Max Resolution (external): 1600 x 1200".

I'm guessing this is a good sign that means it should work no problem, right?

The original screen doesn't matter, because if you turn it off and connect an external one the laptop essentially "forgets" that the primary screen was ever connected.

As long as your laptop's graphics card supports the resolution you'll be fine.

Yes it will support it. If you plug it into your laptop you'll need to modify its graphics settings because it will not fit on the screen. If you also have a DVI port, that will help even more. DVI takes the screen's information and the graphic card will configure it for you and make the screen fit.

Plug it in.

Go to Display settings.

You can set it up however you want!

ps: If you close your laptop, be sure to disable your automatic sleep settings!

You are only limited to what the graphic card in your notebook can handle. And the type of connection it has (output)
