i'm missing something here.... why would you rent a truck to tow your own car? Why not drive your own car- you are driving anyway...
23 hours is doable in 2 long days or 3 short ones and is a good way to see the country. Problem is that depending on where you are starting out from, you may run into the worst of the winters weather right now. If you fly, you are without vehicle on one side of the move or the other for a day or two...
I've driven and moved over 44 hours away and 30 hours away, with kids. It's not always fun, but then again we have some great memories too- like moving with 2 kids, a dog, rabbit and fish.

Well I do not know where you are going to be able to rent a truck (one-way) for only 200$.
We moved two years ago (a 19 hour drive) and our truck, plus the tow dolly was around 750$ after taxes and stuff (unlimited mileage). We got a few good discounts from booking online and being AAA members through Penske and we shopped around A LOT!
Of course, then there is GAS which was at least 200 if memory serves and prices were a bit lower then.
At any rate, it was still cheaper to do it that way than it would have been to have our stuff shipped and drive...
NOTE ... if you DO rent a truck and tow your car get a 4 wheel dolly NOT a 2 wheel tow dolly. That way your car is all the way up on the trailer, it is better for your car easier to control and was only like 50 bucks more or something.
Either way, good luck with your move!

It will definitely be cheaper to drive. I live in Central New Jersey, and we drove to Miami, FL in 2 days and all we had to pay for was gas and food. I can't say how much it would cost because I don't know how much gas you would need to buy and how often you would stop to eat, but guaranteed it will be WAY cheaper if you drive. Flying is hundreds of dollars a person where as driving, you have to pay for gas, which is let's say idk maybe 50 to fill up each time. I doubt you would have to fill it up more than let's say 8 times, so that would be $400 at most. I'm part of a family of four, and normally we spend 30-40 whenever we eat out. Let's say you eat out 12 times, that's $480 for food. I'm not sure how much parking your car at the port will be but also if you factor that in, it will be way cheaper. That would be a total of $880 (at the VERY most, I just considered the maximum also adding parking at the port). $880 would not even cover for 3 people to fly. Driving would definitely be your cheapest option. Hope this helps!

DEFINETLY FLY!!! I mean, now it may seem cheaper, but once you get the cost of gas, and hotel for overnight (unless you're seriously planning to drive 23 hours straight), and i live in Dallas, and i'll tell you now, traffic isn't a walk in the park. And do you really want to go through all the hassle when you can just fly here??? If you do fly, make sure to take AA, they have amazing service and, trust me, you do not want to see Lovefield.

If you don't mind driving then go for it. But remember that the cost to drive will also rack up with gas prices and hotel costs. However, before you journey off in your car - check weather in the areas you will be traveling through. If it looks like you may hit some bad situations then consider taking the flight. There is many issues to weigh out before you decide to drive.

It'll be most convenient for you to fly if you don't like long, boring drives. But if your money is tight right now, and you're on a budget, you should drive. The best thing to do is make a list of pros and cons of flying. what are the bad things about taking a flight, and the good things. if the number of good things out number the bad, then you should book your flight ASAP!

I moved from Chicago to Dallas (about 22 hours) and towed a rented trailer with my vehicle. It's not a bad drive. And since you're looking at $1,000 difference, to me it's a no-brainer decision to drive.

You need to figure out how much gas will cost, getting a room, and eating expense will run you then compare the two. Go with the most economical for you. If someone is helping you you might not need a room because you can alternate driving, also if you pack food then the only stops will be gas, bathroom and to stretch you legs. Good Luck

the drive is long, but if you break it up and maybe stay over in some city halfway it wont be that bad.. with that said.. I would rent a truck and tow my car behind it.. or if you're moving with another person have them drive your car while u drive the truck

Before you make your decision, take a pad of paper and figure the following: rental of truck (make sure you include their attached fees such as insurance, etc) cost of food and gas. Then take the cost of shipping your car and add the cost of the airplane. ($1,700)) If the cost to drive is cheaper, than drive. Don't work with arounds. Get the exact amounts.
