You are correct. As much as our upbringing does create the person we become, we always have the choice of changing that. once you're an adult, you, and only you, are responsible for your actions.

I know what you mean. People should take responsibility for their actions, but that doesn't mean that their upbringing hasn't affected their descision making. Our identities are shaped by our genes, our environment, and by our own conscious decisions. Even though someone's upbringing provides a reason, often a valid reason, for why they act the way they do, it is not an excuse. The two will always go hand in hand, but the person still has to take responsibility. Everyone has to struggle with whatever behavioral problems they may have aquired from whatever situation, but we must overcome those and try to be kind and just.

It is an easy way out, blame the parents, but guess what parents aren't responsible for their children's actions once they reach the age of 18, some parts of the world 16, so excuses are just that, a way to shift blame.
Those people probably had the best of upbringing and were too stubborn to obey the house rules saying "my parents were too strict" it really is popular to hear this, and I think when you hear this you should remind them of the fact that they are no longer under their parent's control so what's your excuse now. Fess up and own it. Thanks for pointing this out, it is this society's worst social bashing, blaming.

I take full responsibility for my thoughts and actions. I blame nothing on my upbringing. Only a coward will place blame on someone or something else. Once a person becomes free from their parents they should assume full accountability for their behaviors.

That's right. The first thing is to take responsibility for your own actions.
If you call someone out for doing something, he should take responsibility for his actions. It isn't bad, though, if after taking responsibility, people realize through self reflection, that they did something because that is what they learned. The key is to know why you're doing it so you can figure out how to keep yourself from doing it!

Life is easier if you can blame someone else,
as soon as they're married, they can blame their spouse !
