No! I love horses and plan to own them for the rest of my life, but there are too many stupid people out there that own them when they shouldn't. They get the horses hurt or ruined or they get them killed by doing little things that they didn't know were bad (i.e. tying the young horse to a post that's along a barbed wire fence and then watching the horse freak out, get all of its limbs tangled in the wire and have to be euthanized from all of the injuries). And people assume that they're as easy to take care of as a cat...just set out a litter box and pet it every now and then...and that's not true. You have to actually care for it. So in conclusion, no. I think that there are a lot of people that own horses that shouldn't, as it is.

Are you insane? Do you have any idea how many people have horses that SHOULDN'T?! Why I've read a heck of a lot of posts on this very website from people I wouldn't let brush my horse, let alone take care of it.
Bottom line, the majority of people are too stupid, lazy, or ignorant to be allowed horses. They're not like dogs or cats (which some people shouldn't have either) they're a hell of a lot more complicated and a lot more work. I personally think that only about 1/3 of the people I've ever met who have horses should be allowed to keep them.
Read some of the idiotic horse-themed posts on this board?! "Is it ok to leave my horse in the trailer overnight?" "Why is she bucking?" or "I break and train horses but can't figure out why this one kicks".

I like the idea of ariding horses everywhere, although I do have some reservations:
I've read reports about what city streets were like before the advent of the automobile, and they weren't for the faint of heart. Horses poop and pee out something on the order of 50 pounds of excretions per 1000 pounds weight per day. That's an awful lot of "emissions" to be disposed of.
Also true, horseback riding on a day that is very hot, very cold, or when it's raining isn't always a lot of fun. I used to have to get up at 4:00 AM to exercise my horse before work, and even in sunny Southern California, winter mornings weren't a lot of fun.
And then, there's the distance thing. My husband and daughter and I like to take the occasional jaunt from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. This can take us anywhere from several hours (good traffic) to eternity (more than 14 hours is our record, they were working on the freeway and in places it was only one lane). But if we had to do it in a horse-drawn vehicle, it would take us days, and there would be some times of the year, considering that the road to Vegas is through the desert, when we couldn't do it at all.
I love horses and horseback riding. Time spent riding horseback is not subtracted from alloted time on earth, and the outside of a horse is good for the inside of a person. But I don't regret that we have more efficient means of transport than horses.

I know I am a better person for having horses, I see parts of the country I would not see otherwise, because it would be almost impossible to reach on my own. I also enjoy brushing, grooming and learning new things with my babies. Each one has its own personality. So yes I would think it is better if everyone had a horse.

That would be pretty cool to be able to ride your horses all over the place. I think the world lacks in grass too.

True but have you seen what some people do to there horses??
I used to say this about critters "every one should have a critter" then I got a little more experience and have seen what some people do to there critters....
But It would be so COOL to be able to ride horses all over ! We can in our little town ride your horse to the store or school or where ever, but they stopped it in the next town over....
Oh and I would love to get a wagon or a buggy for my half work horse, he would love it I bet!

I wish I could afford a horse and have all the land it would need. Someday. I want a big farm with horses, ones that are rideable and lame ones that need a loving home. But yes that would rock. It would just take me a bit longer to visit home than my normal 8 hour drive. :P

Quite frankly I think only the people who treat animals well should get horses and other animals and the others can walk.
