Blackberries are wonderful for internet access and email, but I have several salesmen that will tell you they suck as a functional phone. Two traded them for the Motorola Smart Phones, and one traded his for a Treo. The other two just went back to their old Nokias.

If you are interested, in this month's issue of consumer reports, they discuss the best rated cell phones and their features. In regard to the blackberry, the say, "The smallest phone we've tested, yet its trackball, menu, back keys, and programmable keys make navigation a breeze. Setting up e-mail is also easy; you can access a BlackBerry e-mail address and manage up to 10 additional e-mail accounts. The supplied intellisync software allows you to synch with Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes. You can charge the phone from a computer's USB port. You can easily mute the ringer by holding down the # button. But the keypad, which serves as both a QWERTY keyboard for text and a numeric keypad for dialing, is hard to use; as with phone keypads, each key covers several letters, which hampers writing, especially at first. Unlike the Pal, and the T-Mobile,the phone lacks an auto key guard-you have to remember to press and hold the mute button before putting it in your pocket or purse. And the display is hard to see in bright light.
Actually, the Pal, Treo 700P was the highest rated smart phone, and the T-Mobile MDA came in second. The BlackBerry came in 5th.

It all depends on what your needs are and how much moolah you wanna spend...
If you own a business and/or need it for work then, yes, it makes practical sense to use the blackberry, cingular 8125, or any other smartphone. It is not only necessary but essential for any techie and/or businessman. I just got rid of my Blackberry Pearl and opted for the Cingular 8125 instead of the Treo smartphone. I like the Media Player and the IE response time on my cingular 8125. MicroSd cards are now cheap that you can take movies, pictures, and listen to mp3 and mpgs with these new phones.

It all depends on what you need the phone for. If you use your blackberry full potential as far as business and what have you then it is good. If you only need a phone to make and receive calls than a regular cell phone is enough.

Blackberrys are great for professionals or those who have extensive organizing needs. I had one for a year and loved it, except....they are so big. I hated how bulky it was. I got rid of it and just carry a regular phone now. I'm thinking about getting a Treo b/c they have more features.

if you work in an office and have lots of clients who need to be able to easily contact you, having a blackberry is wonderful b/c you can easily use the internet on your phone.
but if you are just in high school, it's ridiculous that you would have one.
