This is the time of year for allergies. It all depends on if this is allergy or cold. It could take two or three weeks to clear. Allergy could be longer.
My suggestion is that you call your pediatricians office. Tell them the symptoms. They will tell you to come in or not. Its always better to be safe than sorry with newborns and babies.
bless your life

I don't know if you're talking about nasal congestion or chest congestion. It also depends on what the cause is. If it's an allergic reaction and he is still exposed to the allergen, then it will persist. If it's a virus, nasal congestion typically lasts the duration of the virus. For colds, usually about 7-10 days. If the congestion is in the chest, it could take months after the virus has been defeated by the immune system to cough it all up.

Normally a cold, if that's all that it is and it's not croup, lasts about two weeks. My daughter just got over congestion and an extremely runny nose that lasted almost three weeks. Try running a humidifier in your son's room as well as rubbing Vicks Vaporub for babies on his chest at nap time and when he goes to bed.

I have a two year old and we went through two antibiotics and we are still battling the congestion. This time of year is bad especially due to the weather. If not better by tomorrow I would get him in to she a doc because it can turn into ear infections, bronchitis, or even pneumonia. I hope your little man feels better soon.

I would take him to the doctor tomorrow if he is still congested. You do not want this to turn into bronchitis or worse. Also, please remember that newborns are NOSE BREATHERS. Newborns absolutely cannot breathe from their mouths like adults can. Please,Please keep him suctioned!! That is one of the things none of the "Baby Books" tell you about.

I would take him to the doctor. It may be more than a cold. It may be upper respitory infection and need antibiotics to clear it up.
