i'm doing a heat saving project and i need some ideas on ways to keep conduction, convection, and radiation from taking heat away from preheated soup.

You should insulate it. there's something used in the third world called hayboxes. Basically they heat their soup or cooking item to temperature, then place it in a box that is insulated, and fits the cooking pot into like a hand into a glove. The soup keeps cooking at that temps for quite a while. The box is made out of hay, but you could make one from styrofoam. Cut out a piece so that your soup container fits just so (think puzzle pieces), and then puta styrofoam covering on top...

Don't really put the heating on until about the start of November it can save a bit of heating.

Completely insulate it with poorly conductive materials.
