"Ear candling is generally classified as pseudoscience or quackery by mainstream medicine, as no scientific evidence supports it. Skeptics point out that there is no mechanism by which the candle could conceivably draw out anything from the ear, and that a sufficient vacuum to do so could not possibly be generated. Nor could the candle create a sufficiently high temperature to "melt" the earwax as is sometimes claimed. Researchers at the Spokane Ear, Nose, and Throat Clinic have concluded that ear candling is ineffective at creating a vacuum and removing impurities from the ear, and may result in injuries.
Some practitioners of ear candling show accumulations of "wax" inside used candles as evidence that they are effective. However, one European manufacturer, Biosun, points out that these are in fact products of combustion of the candle, which form inside the candle even when it is not placed inside the ear.
A list of claims, from cleansing the ear canal and curing infections to clearing the eyes and purifying the blood, can be found on the Quackwatch website."

If your ear is plugged with wax you will have to irrigate it or have it done by a MD.

I did my own by buying an irrigator at a medical supply and gently flushing with body temp water and peroxide. This could be dangerous if you have a perforated eardrum tho.

It depends what you mean by "help". It does remove the wax from your ears. If you have an ear infection, no, it's not going to make it feel better right away. And if you have an ear infection, the suction created by the burning (this is a very safe process if done by the instructions, you don't get burned or even come close), no matter how gentle it is, can hurt. It's just a simple suction pressure but if your ears are hurting, it's no fun.

Otherwise? For simple ear cleaning? It's harmless, and it pulls out wax that's a bit deeper than a Q-tip could safely reach.

Oh using a candle wax in your ear to drain ear wax is the greatest invention someone came up with. I have found it really helps when you start getting ear aches and ear infections, it helps clean out the ear, and its also nice when your ear is plugged up and you want to hear good again! I say its the greatest thing, and my whole family uses them, I even got my boyfriend to try it when his ear hurt and its helped and now he loves it to.

I have used the wax cones that you stick in your ear and light on fire, if thats what you mean by waxing. I guess it works. When you unravel it there is a bunch of nasty looking wax in it, but I dont know if that is ear wax or candle wax. I would stick with
q-tips.
