Is it far? 6 African teams in the next World Cup, and only 4,5 from South America and 13 from Europe?

FIFA released the number of teams of each continent for the next World Cup. Africa will increase to 6 teams, South America will keep with 4,5 and Europe will decrease to 13! Why FIFA ignores that in the last World Cup among the 4 South American teams, 3 went to the second round, while among the 5 African teams only one went to the second round? The quality of the first round of the last World Cup was horrible because of the excessive number of Asian, African and CONCACAF teams, and FIFA makes it worst? Why all that demagogy? Do you agree with it?

Mrs. Cannavaro, I think that with the exception of Bolivia (poor Bolivia... they
have had better days...) all the other South America teams are respectfull.

Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay (almost "killed" the Frenchs in 98), Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, all them are respectfull.

Remember that Italy almost lost to Chile in 98? All South American country that goes to the World Cup is a hard team, they don't go to the World Cup just to make part of it, like many African, Asian and CONCACAF teams.

God, what do you think Ronaldinho is? He's black, Dida is black, Juan is black, Zé Roberto is black, many others are mixed in the Brazilian team. The Ecuatorian team is 75% black...

Since I was kid (1992) I've been hearing that African football is booming and that they will soon win the World Cup...

Of course I know how to spell "fair", miss "never-made-any-mistake-while-writing"

it is just not fair that the European places in the 2010 FIFA World Cup has to give one berth to the host continent, Africa as Africa don't deserve to earn 6 places in the finals. after all, SOUTH AFRICA has taken one slot & still there are 5 more to be contested in Africa. this is definitely NOT fair!!

in the past, the European & South American teams perform better at the recent FIFA World Cup & they will continue to dominate in world football in the next couple of the years. i think SOUTH AMERICA should get another berth, European berths has to be remain unchanged (14 berths) while the Asian & CONCACAF region should get one berth less than what they got in 2006. Oceania should continue to earn their places in the intercontinential play-off.

remember in 2002 where Asia got only 2 places for the qualifiers as both KOREA REPUBLIC & JAPAN has taken the berth as the host nations for a total of 4 berths!!

I agree with you and disagree with FIFA.
When I try to find a reason why they do it this way, I believe they do it because....there are 10 teams competing in South America, and they get 4.5, which means 45%, and almost 50% given the fact that they will play against the fourth place of CONCACAF, which could be Guatemala, El Salvador or else.
Now, in Asia and Africa there are many more teams fighting for a place in the WC, BUT (yes, BUT) their quality is not as good as South America, and this is a fact.
About Europe, they get a lot of teams due to the number of teams and their marketing and history.
The world is changing, and I again agree with you that since 1982 people keep saying that an african team will soon win the World Cup, and this is because the great performance that Cameroon had in Spain. But up until now, we haven't seen much from african teams - please, understand that I am a fan of african teams when they are in the WC.
Asia is a different issue. Corea just placed third in 2002 because of the referees, and if someone disagrees about this, is because they don't know what they are talking about or they don't know what happened.

I dont think you should be on here if you dont even know how to spell fair. And by the way, African football teams would be a lot better if they had more money to spend on the team so dont go thinking we naturally suck.

FIFA say it according to how strong the qualification is..i agree that Europe is the strongest in Football but dont you think that African and asian countries should be given chances since it is called the World Cup ..Fifa recognized that in Africa the competition is getting stronger and many teams try there best to qualify and still didnt..Like Egypt Cameroon Senegal and Nigeria which are suppose to be the strongest African country in football yet countries which actually never qualified for the world cup made it to the finals like Coted'evoir angola ghana and togo
On the other hand Europe..teams qualify easily without any effort because the qualification is easy is croatia that strong to qualify to the world cup?the decreased the number to make it harder and to let them make some more effort and give the qualifications the respect.Any country which qualifies for the world Cup deserves some respect..in South America it is only 2 teams they always qualify for the world cup and by far the strongest in football..Argentina and Brazil...maybe Ecuador and Uruguay but 4 countries in one continent making the qualifying dont you think that it is a bit poor ..Same goes for Asia many countries qualify from Asia because the qualifying stage is very poor ... the farthest round all asian countries could reach is that of round 32..and this prove that Asian countries are not that strong and not all of them deserves to reach the final stages of the world cup

Asia has a huge chance to win in a few years with teams like Australia, Japan, and South Korea developing, Africa has a chance with a few good teams like Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria (if they do not get banned from fifa that is!), North America also has 2 good teams in Mexico and the USA, Oceania, well at least New Zealand did okay in the world cup but they they have the longest way to go

Just for the record, it's called the WORLD cup for a reason......

if you don't like the Asian and African nations just stick with the Euro Cup. Even though the African and Asian teams don't get far they need the experience to build up their nation. Plus...it's all in good fun. the world cup is supposed to be enjoyed by every nation around the world....EQUALLY not just Europe....it would be horrible if it was just mostly European nations Argentina and Brasil...!! The outcome would be the same every year....no surprises!!

European teams are great but i just think it was just a coincidence that most of the European teams made it past the first round. in '02 WC there was a huge improvement in the concacaf teams and asian teams. i respect south american teams (since my parents are from there) but other than argentina, brazil no one is really great (paraguay and urugauy are very respected) but the rest are crap (dont mean to offend, just my opinion) i believe too many european teams are in the WC. this should work out for the better.

They get six because South Africa is hosting and qualified automatically. So they want to maintain the system of having five African teams going through via qualifying.
