What should I do about a bratty, bossy, 11-year-old daughter?

Sorry but it will probably get worse...firm boundaries that you stick to , don't threaten anything you can't carry through ( some things are said in temper that you actually dont mean ) this goes for the child aswell but you have to be the calm adult and not be drawn into battles. Since I have calmed down with my daughter and learnt to be firm the improvement is amazing. Sometimes it is easy to ignore problems with kids cause you are tired, something good on telly, on the phone etc. If the small problems aren't dealt with then they grow into large ones. But remember the majority of parents are having the same or similar problems whether they admit it or not and you look back on problems and they seem small in hindsight.

I would certainly set rigid guidelines and be strict now because I can tell you, she is going to get more and more rebellious. On the plus side, if she thinks you are serious she won't do major things such as drink, smoke, do drugs, or have sex. My mom was very fierce with me and I was too scared to do any of those things all through high school. I still haven't to this day and I am 28. Let her know you love her but make sure that you have a very firm hand and don't cave in on anything.

Draw up some rules of conduct that apply in your house, have her sign them and if she breaks them punish her by taking away privileges.

Demand the same degree of politeness from her to you that you show to her.
