We just finished the units on oscillations and frequency and waves, but we did not do sound yet.

Thank you....

We just finished waves and sound as well (and have moved on to light)! Well, since you haven't done sound yet, that seems a little tricky. I would recommend a project analysing how a musical instrument, say, a stringed instrument - like a guitar - works. You could go into standing waves and how they create resonance with different lengths, and how the hole in the guitar projects the sound... A wind instrument would work too, and you could study close-ended air columns.

On the other hand, if that's still a little too far to research comfortably, you could take a look at how frequency was discovered. Maybe write a little bit about Henry Hertz, who invented that unit. Or on a different subject, take a peek at the different frequencies, especially those that we can and can't hear, from earthquakes and whale communication, to audible sound, to dog whistles.

Good luck with that paper! :)

well if your doing frequency and waves I would suggest writing somthing up on waves.

Somthing you may want to look at is a phenenom known as "Rogue waves" that happen in the ocean. For a while they were known as a myth, but some recent observations accually caught them on camera and they do occur. Maybe write up somthing on what the underlying physics is about these waves.
(hint) talk about constructive interference and how these waves are constructed... just an indea
