8 weeks is almost 2 months which is almost thru the first trimester. I don't understand why this is too early. How about you give the in-laws a empty picture frame with the theme #1 Grand Child and a note "to be filled in July 2007".
As for the drinking how about when they offer you a glass you just ask them for a glass of water because you are really thirsty. No one wants to see someone else hammer down a glass of wife.

This is the most wonderful event in your life . Share it with your family. What a wonderful time of the year to share the news of a baby. Don't worry about it being too early. Good news is never too early. My daughter gave us a little white box with a pink and blue bow on it for Christmas with an ornament inside to give us the news. It made our Christmas even more special. God Bless you and your new family.

You don't need to explain anything that you don't want to. If someone questions you about the alcoholic beverages you might simply say, "Last year I gained several pounds during the holidays, so this year I'm giving up the alcohol calories so I can enjoy some of the other treats!"

If you don't want to drink the wine and not inform them you're pregnant, tell them that you took some medication and you just don't ever mix alcohol with medication.

Congrats!
2 options, 1: Don't bring it up, but if they ask you, just admit it. 2. Just tell them you are laying off the alcohol for a bit, trying to get in better shape.

Why is it "early" if you know for sure you're pregnant? Is there a reason you don't want to tell them? I don't understand why not just let everyone know.

I wait and see if they ask, if your not ready to tell them your pregnant yet! If the subject doesn't come up, then let it fly for now.
