I've heard MANY MANY suggestions from people about how to help bring about labor. I am due tmrw (Dec.8th), and she is ready to go, if she doesn't come by next week they want to induce. SO far the things I have heard are Nipple stimulation, sex, spicy foods, walking, and some type of syrup (I've tried all of them except that syrup one which I am afraid is not safe) My dr has already scraped the membrains TWICE! And still nothing... she be-bops around in there as if she were doing martial arts!! Any ideas? or anyone with an experience that might pertain? Thanks! :)

yup, I am dialated... about 2% and about 50% effaced... HOWEVER with my last pregnancy I was about 5 centimeters and 50% effaced since about 8 months and still went 2 weeks over.. he was 8 lbs 11oz. My first was only 7 lbs 7oz and he was born on his due date. Both labors we completely natural no epidural or anything... PLUS I go quick when I do go... my first took only 6 hours from start of initial labor to finish, my second was 4 hrs. Lost my plug with first one but not second and nothing yet with this one. (grr lol)

Having sex and eating spicy foods is just a myth. It doesn't bring on labor and it's just an old wive's tale.

My best advice would be to just let nature take it's course. If she's not ready to come out, then she's not ready. Just be patient--it's not like she'll be in there forever! (Although it may seem like it!) Congrats on the little one..and I hope you have an easy and safe delivery.

I've heard that taking long bumpy rides also help. Quite honestly though she will come when she's ready. I know that is probably the last thing you wanted to hear. I have had four children so I know what you are going through. Our third child was bound and determined he was not going to come into this world. He was quite content to stay where he was. I tried everything you mentioned and several of them more than once but alas to no avail. One good thing I can tell you though is that when the Dr. induces the labor it really shouldn't be as long a labor as it would have been otherwise. Merry Christmas, congrats on the new blessing in your life and best wishes for a trouble free labor and delivery.

No mattered all the tricks of the trade you try, the baby will come when she is ready. Take a nice long walk to go eat spicy food and go home and have some "special time" with your partner. It is said that the sperm deterates the lining so make sure that is happening and a organism really helps in that department of getting the guys there.

My and my hubby tried all of these for a week before my water broke.

As my midwife once told me, " The apple will fall from the tree when it is ripe. " Patience, my dear. What you didn't tell us is if you have started dilating yet. That is a good way to get things started. Some evening primrose oil on the abdomen and lower area should help. They also have evening primrose suppositories to help soften up your cervix to help it to start dilating. There are some serious herbal teas that can bring on the onset of labor, but, if this is your first birth, I wouldn't suggest them. I would suggest them if you had already started labor then stalled out.

Just relax. Once you start the serious labor you're going to wonder why you wanted to rush it in the first place.

Congratulations and good luck.

Wait. primary gestation is 40 weeks, so i think of you would be leaping the gun, right here. Barring issues, your toddler would be born while it relatively is waiting, and that's the terrific way. it relatively is the toddler's scheule, in spite of everything, no remember what the surgeon thinks. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, you ought to continually attempt making an appointment for an fairly high priced stay overall performance you relatively choose to attend--labored for my terrific chum!

I've tried all of them....... I don't know if any of those helped along with either of my labors!!!
But with my daughter, they were going to induce me because I was 9 days overdue, and my sister said to use my breastpump.
Pump 5 minutes on one side, 5 minutes on the other, then stop for 10 minutes, and do it all over again... do it for an hour.
It won't hurt, you aren't putting anything into your body, your just getting your body ready!
I went into labor 5 hours later :)
Try it, it won't hurt....

Good luck!

Beni - having sex is not a myth but scientifically proven method of triggering labor. I don't mean to say that it works for everyone, but it does work. Sex causes uterus to contract. It also prepares cervix for labor (stretches and softens it). It's a fact! Provided it's a normal pregnancy, of course!

Have you tried walking? Ride in the car down a bumpy road? Try doing something really involved that you can't stop (sewing, cooking, etc)...then the baby will come for sure!

Sex worked for us! And I agree that I would not try some syrup concoction someone gave you online. Be patient, she'll be here when the time is right.

RASBERRY TEA. Go to the store and get some and drink it tonight. My water broke a few hours later. MAYBE it was a coincidence or maybe not. But hey..it's better than castor oil which I didn't feel safe trying. it worked for me, drink rasberry tea!
