I would feel that they weren't given a proper upbringing by their parents.

I feel very hurt, when I hear derogatory or insulting language form anyone, be they young or older. Then I stop and think, especially at the F word and The B***h word, and wonder why they find the need to use such language, when the English language has an abundance of words, to express oneself without being rude. With the Young ones, I speak to the Parent, and with someone of age. I usually express how disgusting their language is, and go on with whatever is at hand. I also avoid being in their company again if I am able.

It depends on how old the underaged person was. I see every day teenagers disrespecting their elders and I do say something when I hear this. I can't really blame the child due to how many parents out there are trying to be their children's friends instead of a parent. I can of course allow the younger of the two to know how rude and disrespectful they are being. It's our job as a society not to allow crap to continue on the way it has been. You have the right to say something and you should. Thank you.

I AM an older person, and see all manner of disrespect widely practiced.

Most of it is not intended to be disrespectful (such as waiters saying, "No problem," instead of "Yes, Ma'am", or total strangers calling me by my first name), but it is irritating, just the same.

Most of the time I let it slide, because the perpetrator is ignorant, and clearly too old to educate.

Now and then, though, I really let myself go...and raise an eyebrow.

THAT will show them!

my friend depends of the society where you are living the perception will be different,ex: to me i was educated to respect my older but in some countries it is free speech,in my case i deal with my kids from the beginning and i use discipline through silence and to take away the different items that they use to entertain like tv,video games, computer etc... and i send to them to dishwash, clean the rooms etc...so i teach that every action has a consequence.me and my was can stay per months without to say any words to them just the schedule of the tasks.now if we have the reason.

Depends on the situation. I had this happen when I was a teacher. My first year was also my last. I tried to explain that the kids needed to respect me because I was older and their teacher, and one girl totally disagreed with me.

I really blame it on the parenting, parents should teach their children to respect elders.

If my job depended on their respect I would (and DID) talk to the parents. If not, I am still angry but I shrug it off

that hasn't happened to me. if it did i would put that person in there place. kids now days have no respect for any one, being a kid is no excuse to be rude. i was a teenager a few years ago and i never thought about being rude to my elders not even now that I'm an adult.

Disrespect is not good coming from either way. I have been disrespected by older, by my peers and by younger people and neither felt good. Whenever I am shown disrespect, I put a stop to it instantly, by showing my disapproval.

It happens to me all the time. When my kids go to school, they are taught in divers ways not to respect their parents. They end up not respecting anyone else, either.

I hate it when a younger female calls me sweety or hun! It's so condescending and annoying! Sometimes I get them to repeat themselves until they get the point. "I'm sorry, what was that sugarplum?"
