a lot of businesses still use them. the disks are cheap, small, and most text files/spreadsheets are only a couple hundered kilobytes.
getting a pc without a A drive wouldnt be economic unless you were building a computer yourself. It depends if the expansion slot is there in the case. A usb A: drive would be more expensive later on than getting one initially. Then again, anything on a floppy disk is small enough to just e-mail.

There's not really any use for one now is there, unless you already have floppy discs with info on already. CDs can store a lot more information than a floppy and USD drives are quite cheap and have a larger capacity for transferring files between computers.

Heck no, in fact i just ordered myself a new XPS 410 and i made sure that it had a floppy drive. I did it because not everyone has made the jump to CD's and flash drives so I can still read content from people who only have disks.

A few years ago I forked out a lot of money for a new PC, dazzled by the flashy lights I didn't notice that the "A" drive was missing! I spent a small fortune on a USB "A" drive, I bet they're cheap now! Couldn't live without it!

Good question.
I remember the first imacs coming out and hating the idea that it didn't have a floppy drive.
I haven't put one in any of my computers for the last 3 years, what were they 1.Mb or something like that !

It's handy to be able to boot up a PC if the hard drive is not bootable, since it can check there first before trying the hard drive - it's a legacy from the days of early PC's.
