The chance of cross over increases as gene distance on a chromosome increases.

The REAL answer is that distance doesn't always correlate to the frequency of crossing over. However, I'm guessing this is for a biology or intro genetics class, and IN GENERAL it is expected that the further apart the genes are on the chromosome, the greater the frequency of crossing over.

father away = more likely a cross-over will occur between the two gene loci (since there are more places where a cross over can potentially occur)
