If I'm done with my work and I have checked for errors, should I have to help my co-worker when she bullshits and takes all day to complete one task? I even picked up a couple other tasks and she was still working on the same thing. So now she calls in today and the things she needs to complete are still sitting on her desk.

its like she doesnt want to do her share of work. i used to get stuck with doing all the mail but the supv split it up so everything is eqaul. there are things that both of us should do, but i think the boss gives them to be because she thinks i am more reliable than my co-worker. I am not a kiss @ss either, but I am no fool either.

Should you have to help? No. Should you help? Only if it's being noticed by those in a position to do something for you in the future, like your boss or managers in other departments. Go ahead and help out if someone is watching, which serves the dual purpose of displaying her lack of ethics while showing off your skill and great work ethics. You should expect to be promoted or rewarded in some way. If not, reconsider the position or company.

You don't have to be a kiss @#$ and you don't have to do her work, but showing initiative and an interest in taking on more responsibility will go one of two ways. 1. More responsibility, more money or 2. Too much responsibility and not enough money. I don't know how long you've been with your current employer or what you do, but it shouldn't take long to figure out which of those scenarios will play out. Be observant, intuitive and perform to the best of your abilities. That is all you can do. Good Luck

It is a great opportunity to show that you are a dedicated worker and a team player. I'd suggest you have a talk with your supervisor first and offer him/her your availability.

I'm somewhat concerned about your last comment about "kiss *** and no fool." Being an agressive worker has nothing to do with any of them.

Nope, let her find out what happens to slackers, just do your job to the best of your ability.

If you want to be a team player, develop a plan to take to your boss about how to correct this problem and begin training her. If she doesn't take to it, you would have at least done everything you could.

Yeah do it but make sure you hand in the work and get the credit for it. If your pal does not like it then she will do it herself next time.

If I were you I'd start working a little slower. She's probably slacking off while she waits for you to do her work.
