My cat does that, he does something super-cute and when I take out the camera and turn it on he just walks away just before I shoot.

Your camera is very strange looking to your pet. You don't walk around with it most of the time, so when you take it out, your pet, runs away.
Who want to face something that is scary. "Hey it might hurt me or kill me, should I stay and see if it's safe or run and wait for it to go away. RUN!"
If you use your camera a lot around your pet they will get used to it and then they'll do cute things in front of the camera.

I know!! One of my horses loves pictures and being in them. Whenever you pull a camera out she poses. But my other horse like looks evil when you pull out a camera. I guess some animals want you and no one else to know how cute they are. And others like the fame.

Yep they do!!
I tried to film our English Mastiff playing with our 8 week old Aussie pup.
As soon as I took out the camera they stopped! Really they did! Then everyone wanted to go out side to see what was going on out there so I put up the camara....

yes, unfortunatly they do... but first get the cat used to the camera. like, for example, take out the camera even if he isn't doing something cute. once he gets used to the camera, he won't pay any mind to it.

you make him nervous, when you go to take his pic do it calmly, don't dash for the camera, also leave the camera lying around so he knows what it is and you might want to take some random pics of him when he's not paying attention, he oculd be scared fo the noise the camera makes and thinks it might hurt him

My dog stops doing the cute thing, poses and smiles. Still cute, but not the shot I was after.

I think you either scare your cat or she thinks your not interested in her so she walks away. Usually when I try to take pictures, I made it as casual as possible and keep my attention to them.

my dog is pretty good about posing for pictures... well one of them is, the other just tries to lick the camera.
