I have been having problems wit the computer and have run every spyware, virus program I can find. I have even shut down most of the processes and applications that run in the background. Now I cannot even download anything. And when I try to run some programs, I get "cannot read that memory location" messages.

I am running Win 2k SP4 and have changed out my entire RAM ( 1 gig). Nothing has changed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanx...

Sounds like either a corrupt file or a failing hard drive. Recommend you immediately back up any data you have (music, picture, vids, documents, etc).

Then boot from your Windows XP CD and after the F8 to agree have it do a System Restore. This should reinstall Windows without wiping the data.

If it still give you problems after that, you can try a format and reinstall of Windows.

If that does not work, then replace the hard drive.

From Ur words i can come to a conclusion that Ur hard disk and ram have no problems with them

The problem actually is with Ur OS only, means u first remove your unwanted programs using add or remove programs in the control panel,

if it did not solved the problem,
try format ur hard disk once after getting ur hard disk backup, then reinstall ur desired windows version OS first, monitor this thing for a few days with out loading any additional programs like spy ware or antivirus,
then step by step load the wanted programs as per Ur wish

this must solve the problem.

any way i can also suggest a good anti virus for u also

Memory Errors usually refer to your RAM, not hard disk - unless it is a virtual memory error.

I would try removing 1 RAM module at a time (if possible - some Motherboards require memory in pairs) and see if your error goes away - then you will have isolated bad module

Good luck :)

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.
Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.
