"Kermit the Frog

Kermit singing "Bein' Green" in the first season of Sesame Street.Kermit the Frog (introduced 1955[1]) is a fictional character, a Muppet and one of puppeteer Jim Henson's most famous and beloved creations. Kermit was performed by Henson until his death in 1990. Since then, he has been performed by puppeteer Steve Whitmire.

An early version of Kermit appeared in 1955, in a 5-minute puppet show for WRC-TV's Sam and Friends. The prototype Kermit was created from a green ladies' coat that Henson's mother had thrown in the trash can, and two ping-pong balls for eyes. The early Kermit was a sort of lizard-like creature; Kermit's first appearance as a frog was in the television special Hey Cinderella in 1969, and he's been a frog ever since.

Kermit had his big break later in 1969, with frequent appearances on Sesame Street, often as a news reporter interviewing nursery rhyme characters. One of his most memorable works was the song "Bein' Green" from this series. Although closely identified with the show Sesame Street, Kermit featured less as a member of the show's regular Muppet contingent, and more of as a recurring "guest star." Kermit's song "The Rainbow Connection" was also a big hit from The Muppet Movie and, for some time, had become something of a signature song for The Jim Henson Company (it is also the only movie song sung by a "frog" to be nominated for an Academy Award).

In 1979, Kermit and creator Henson spoke at ventriloquist Edgar Bergen's funeral. Kermit published One Frog Can Make A Difference, Kermit's Guide to Life in 1993 in hardcover with Pocket Books. In 1996, he gave a commencement speech at Southampton College in which emphasized his environmentalist side. In 2001 he appeared in the TV show Hollywood Squares.

Kermit also served as the mascot for The Jim Henson Company, until the sale of the Muppet characters to The Walt Disney Company."

"Miss Piggy being moved on Extreme Makeover: Home EditionMiss Piggy is a Muppet character primarily played by Frank Oz. In 2001, Eric Jacobson began performing her, although Oz has not been officially replaced.

She began as a minor character in The Muppet Show TV series, but gradually developed into one of the central characters of the show.

She is a pig who is convinced she is destined for stardom and nothing is going to stand in her way. Her public face tries to be the soul of feminine charm, but can instantly fly into a violent rage whenever she thinks she's insulted or thwarted. Kermit the Frog has learned this all too well since he is the usual target for her karate chops. When she isn't sending him flying through the air, she is often smothering him in (unwanted) kisses.

The first draft of the puppet was a blonde, beady-eyed pig who appeared briefly in the 1975 pilot special, "The Muppet Show: Sax and Violence," in a sketch called "Return to Beneath the Planet of the Pigs." She was unnamed in that show, but by the time "The Muppet Show" began in 1976, she was recognizably Miss Piggy -- sporting large blue eyes, wearing a flowing white gown, and jumping on Kermit, the love of her life. The fact that she was intended to be a bit player is reflected in her formulaic name, which some say was patterned after Miss Mousey, Kermit's love interest in the 1974 special "The Muppet Valentine Show". However, one of the former Muppeteers has recently revealed that the true inspiration for Miss Piggy was singer Peggy Lee, who often billed herself as "Miss Peggy Lee" and sported long blonde hair.

Miss Piggy on The Muppet Show, as the Queen of HeartsMiss Piggy soon developed into a major character, as the Muppet creators recognized that a lovelorn pig could be more than a one-note running gag. Frank Oz has said that while Fozzie Bear is a two-dimensional character, and Animal has no dimensions, Miss Piggy is one of the few Muppets to be fully realized in three dimensions.

In an interview with the New York Times in 1979, Frank Oz outlined Piggy's biography: "She grew up in a small town; her father died when she was young and her mother wasn't that nice to her. She had to enter beauty contests to survive, as many single women do. She has a lot of vulnerability which she has to hide, because of her need to be a superstar."

In The Muppet Movie she has just won such a contest (Miss Bogen County) when she first meets Kermit and joins the Muppets.

Eventually in the films, Kermit started returning her affections and (unwittingly) married her in The Muppets Take Manhattan; although subsequent events suggest that it was only their characters in the movie that married, and that their relationship is really the same as ever. The fact that their relationship - one of the most intriguing storylines of "The Muppet Show" - failed to develop is often cited as one of the reasons many viewers lost interest in the Muppets.[citation needed]

Miss Piggy has a pet poodle, Foo-Foo.

In the Jim Nabors episode of The Muppet Show, Kermit the Frog briefly reveals that Miss Piggy's second name is Lee, an homage to the actress and singer Peggy Lee. However, this is the only time (apart from various magazine articles and a Muppet book) that a character calls her Piggy Lee. Furthermore, in the Avery Schreiber episode, Miss Piggy "allows" Avery to call her by her real name "Pigathius". Thus, it could be said that Miss Piggy's real name is "Pigathius Lee", although these mentions are considered by Muppet fans to be non-canonical.

Miss Piggy recently starred in the TV-movie "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz," appearing as all four witches.

Miss Piggy also played a significant role in the 2002 Weezer music video Keep Fishin'"

Kermit most certainly was originally from Sesame Street. He was, in fact, one of my favorite characters. Those of you who watched in the early days may remember him as doing a newscast...He usually got stuck in some unfortunate situation, simply trying to report on why the princess didn't sleep well last night, or something silly like that.

I believe that Miss Piggy was created for the Muppet Show.

For the record, Sesame Street came out before the Muppet Show. Sesame Street began airing in the U.S. in 1970...The Muppet Show was introduced in 1976.

He was actually on a different show before Sesame Street on a show called Sam & Friends in 1955. He was part of a 5 minute muppet show. According to the following link, he got his big break making appearances on Sesame Street in 1969, but he of course went on to host his own show the Muppet Show and then made it big with many films. This site lists them. So it seems to me that he simply moved on to bigger things as do all great actors. He left Sesame Street in 1979. As for Miss Piggy, she started out on the Muppet Show, which is where she met Kermit. They may or may not have married on the set of Muppets Take Manhatten, though in a later interview, she claimed that the frog was married, assumably to her.
