I'm 28 weeks pregnant, and I am having trouble sleeping at night like never before. I read that I should sleep on my left side, but then it is so uncomfortable for my back that I end up sleeping on my back, which is not good. I feel like I can't breathe, as if I have asthma. I also wake up in the middle of the night, having a nasal congestion. Anyone have suggestions on what I can use or eat to make me feel better? Or any comfortable sleeping positions? Thank You!!

The only thing you can do to feel better is to wake the hubby or boyfriend up and make them as miserable as you.

I rotate from my left to my right sides throughout the night. My back is impossible to sleep on I just can't breathe. I wake constantly about every 1-2 hours and have been doing so since week 26-27. My right side is my most comfortable side, now that I'm pg. My left hurts, its like the weight of the baby is on my intestines or something, it gets really painful. Sometimes pulling my big @ss body pillow up to my body and between my knees which are drawn up into a fetal position (atleast as much as my belly will let me draw my knees up) seems to relieve some of the back pressure I feel when on my left side. Also pushing another pillow into my back helps as well.
As for my stuffiness, I turn the heat down at night and turn the humidfier up. Seems to help most of the time.
None the less sometimes going and getting into the recliner is the only way.

Pillows and more pillows. I'm 28 weeks too and it seems like the best thing to do is to prop yourself up a little bit with pillows and try to put some (or one big body pillow) under your stomach and between your legs. I also notice that I will wake up sometimes at night and be on my back. They say that if it is really putting pressure on your vena cava, then you will unconsciously turn over anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about hurting anything. Here is a link that has some pretty good suggestions:

Hope that helps :)

If you like milk, have a glass of warm milk before bed, the tryptophen (in the milk) can help with sleep. Reading something really boring is also another good one. Try to set a time earlier in the day for stress and worry time and leave it there (if possible, I was never able to do that, lol). Try not to watch tv in bed, leave that room just for sleeping and sex (if you still have any lol) and if you can't get to sleep get back up and quietly read or watch tv until you feel sleepy again. Sleep cycles come and go, you need to wait for the next tired one.

I'm 25 weeks and have the exact same problem! Even with the stuffy nose! Body pillows don't work for me either. The only thing I've found is to sleep on the couch! then you have your back up against the back of the couch for support. Also for stuffy nose at night I use the breathe right strips made for snoring! Works really good! Good Luck!

I bought my glider and ottoman nice and early in the pregnancy the 3rd time around, and it became my best friend for the 3rd trimester. The stuffiness is common, so sleeping elevated a bit helps, and supporting your tummy while sleeping can also help. I could sometimes sleep with a body pillow wrapped around my shoulders, and one between my legs and under my belly. My husband would crack up at my evening preparations. Just remember- you are more than halfway there! Maybe this is natures way of prepping you for the sleep deprivation to come. ;) Good luck!

Get a body pillow and sleep on whichever side you find comfortable, they say you should sleep on the left but if you prefer the right then try that, it's better than sleeping on your back.

I'm still working on the comfortable part, but as for the congestion I bought a humidifier and now all I have to do is blow my nose 1st thing in the morning and I'm good all day! Congratulations on your upcoming baby!♥

it's not the sleeping position or anything else,it's your body preparing itself for the time when the baby is 'out'!it's normal, almost all the pregnant women have it.i had trouble sleeping during the last months of the pregnancy and i talked to my Lamaze instructor and she told me i shouldn't worry,i should sleep when my body needs the rest

I slept on my right side a lot. Try a body pillow, or just a regular pillow. Near the end, I almost had to go out to the recliner, I was so uncomfortable.
Fortunately, benadryl is allowed ;).
