I don't know, but there's a setting on the newer TV's that adjust to the commercial's volume - if it's too loud, the volume goes down, then back to the original setting when the program comes back on. It's so annoying, I agree - I'm constantly turning the volume down, then up, then down....(*sigh*)....

They want your attention. In the days of Tivo you are only going to find more and more annoying ways of ads. I heard a proposal of running a single word for several seconds long so that if you were skipping the commercial you still saw the message.

Oh, How I HATE that!! I guess they finally got wise to those of us who go into the kitchen or bathroom during the commercials....but it's backfired on them. Before, I still heard their commercial from where I was...now I just turn it down and don't hear it at all.

Great question. I knew I wasn't just imagining it! I'm gonna watch and see if someone knows the answer to it.
I'm sure that commercials pay to somehow have their ads programmed to increase the volume when they come on.

The reason they do this is to get your attention. and it just irks the crap out of me. and I make sure I take note of which ones does that so I do not buy their product. Because its like an insult to me. If they are not shouting at me I will not pay attention. they do it on the infomercials to. It is so ridiculous. I am not a five year old, or hard of hearing.
