Please research before you get a ferret.

They are not cheap animals to keep. They can be very costly. This forum is a good place to start:

That being said, let me clear up a few things. Ferrets do have unique smell, but so do dogs.

Kept PROPERLY, ferrets are not that stinky. Its just that most people keep them in wood chips, bathe them too often, and feed them crappy food which makes them smell horrible.

If you're looking for a ferret, i really reccommend looking to your local shelters. There are often many ferrets there looking for homes.

Good luck and feel free to contact me if you have questions.

I agree with luna-fla.........do you research first, BEFORE you get that cute fuzzy thing. They are considered to be "exotic pocket pets" and can be very expensive to take care of properly. Vet bills are usually outrageous. Don't get a ferret for a "novelty". Most people do that and then regret it about 2 years into having the pet. Do yourself and the ferret a favor and research for a few months before making the final decision.

Have you done your research on ferets? They are cute as heck but boy do they stink...the vet will tell you that it's their scent but it they really smell bad....they have a gland that is supposed to be removed and they don't smell anymore well it doesn't work.....now if you want one anyway....your best bet is to go to one of those pet supermarkets and get it there....they go for a bout $100. They are really cute and playful so be sure to get them one of the big cages to live in and lots of toys...Also be careful with shiny gold things becasue they are very attracted to them and you will never see them again....I say to think about it twice because of the smell but if you are ok with that then good luck...they are great pets...I have had one for 8 years.

You might actually try your local humane society or animal shelter. They also might be willing to keep your info, incase they get one in the future.
