I just watched an excellent doc about Nazism from Germany. It was less about documenting the events and more about the Nazi ideals and philosophies. They were, ironically, failed artists, most of them. According to the film, the culminating thrust of the Nazi ideal was beauty perfected through violence. They didn't kill or fight their enemies or political rivals, rather, those who were antithetical to their beliefs.
