If so, is that a written rule or just common knowledge?

If you stayed in the restaurant the entire time then it would be okay to refill it. If you left the restaurant and returned I'm not sure it would qualify as stealing but you know in your heart that it's not the right thing to do!

Filling up your own bottle is theft, just FYI. I'll buy a large drink for several reasons. The price difference usually isn't that great, for one thing. I may want to fill the cup up and take it with me when I leave, in which case I want a big cup. During busy periods the crowd around the drink dispenser can get pretty thick, and I don't want to have to get up four times for a refill and have to wait in line each time.

Some may say it is stealing, but I personally don't think so. You did pay for the actual cup, which is the expensive part to them. If refilling your cup the same day is ok, why shouldn't it be ok the next day?

Yes, and it's common knowledge. But it doesn't mean it doesn't happen-just that it shouldn't. People will generally do what they feel is "right" but "right" is taught. Now that you know what's "right" you can teach others....

Technically it is stealing. Most of the money comes from the soft drink sales, which is why they are so expensive. But oh well, TAKE THAT SODA!

It sure is stealing. When you walk out of those doors the offer is no longer valid. Does anybody get caught, I doubt it.

I can say it technically isnt legal although you arent breaking any specific law. I doubt you could get in any or much trouble for something like that anyways.
