I live in a very small town that lives and breathes the "good ole boy" mentality. I was recently charged with a totally bogus crime, and told that if I didn't take the offered plea bargain and pay the fine that there would be other people in my group charged with a more serious crime. I took the deal to protect my son, who is a junior in high school. The local deputies have a history of harassing, and even killing one teenager. We are not from here, and any stand taken by myself will be met with retaliation, I am sure. My son has already been pulled over and his vehicle searched, and forced to take a breathalyzer...he blew a 000. After holding him for several hours, they called me and let him go. Because I started to stand up to them by pleading not guilty and requesting a jury trial...I am afraid for my son who is not a problem child. He makes decent grades, and takes regular drug tests to participate in sports at school, and has never been in trouble. Somebody has got to know.
