It depends on your motivation. Why do you want to be a mute? Is it reasonable to expect your teachers, friends, family etc to put up with this apparently self-involved behavior?

By the sounds of it you are young and still at school. Why do you dislike the sound of your voice? You need to talk to someone - before you take your 'vow of silence' to find out why you want to do it. If you and they decide it is the right route to take, then you can always communicate with paper, pen,pc or txt. But, given the gift of speech you should use it. Dumb (mute) people will tell you that life without a voice can be more than a tad difficult. Ifyou get hurt or want help you won't always have time to write a note or wave a flag. Good luck with your decision:)

My initial reaction to this was that what you were wanting to do was some form of 'social experimentation,' where, for example, perfectly able-bodied people got into wheelchairs to discover what the world was like and how people in wheelchairs were treated at that level. But then I realised that your question had (seemingly) nothing to do with this.
Your wanting to do this is confusing ~ mainly because you provide no explanations / reasons for it or anything about your Whys!
Obviously, if you have teachers, then you would need permission from them for this. So why can't you approach them for it?
You seem to have 'difficulties' that you need help with. So the best advice is to find whoever it is that you ought to talk to about your problems and try to explain what is going on in your life.
Good luck with this.

Become a monk. you dont say whether or not u intend to use sign language or respond in other ways. If not i would imagine your intentions to simply ignore everyone would be frowned upon, then u might as well become a monk. It would only be percieved as a quirky gimmick, not coooool, in fact in a social environment where others are less fortunate your idea would be distasteful and disrespectful. Why would you not want to talk when you have the ability? would you really choose to ignore the people that love you?

Tell everyone you are doing a sponsored silence for a day - you could even do it for real and earn some money for your favourite charity. Then I can practically guarantee that a day of being mute will help you appreciate the wonderful gift of language you are lucky enough to have.

You have the right to remain silent. - as your local police force will remind you when they arrest you.
But seriously, if your worried about teachers then i think i can help. Just ask them to allow you to submit writen answers, or that you only speak to them in private. If they wont let you do this, then you may have to wait to when you have left school before you become i mute.
But just a thought - How will you get by without a voice? I hope you know sign language

Why do you want to do that? If it was selective mute-ism you wont ask permission for it has deeper roots than wanting to become mute. Try and find the reason why and then see if it is still wort it....or you could just shut-up.....

i guess you could stop talking if you fancy a career in psychiatry (on the harder side that is). just imagine all the attention you could get ,as teams of psychologists and psychiatrists and nurses try to coax you, test you, and cajole you, to try and discover what the terrible trauma was that made you stop talking. hey you might even get free drugs and your parents and carers arrested!
if you want this it is advisable not to ask permission, just go for it. good luck.

Now, there's something I could never do!! Can't imagine why you would want to do this, but I guess if you do you could just explain to everyone that you have decided to be silent and will no longer speak. They can't make you, I guess. I think you should appreciate your ability to do so however, and continue to talk.
