Start small otherwise he will think your trying to buy his love and parents always like to buy the big gifts, Christmas is when kids are excited and it's a parent that should be the favourate person after having to set rules all year round.
A car set from Toys R Us for about £20 will always go down well with 6 year old boys.
Really hope this works out for you, good luck!

Aunts are allowed to buy their nephews and nieces what they choose. I see nothing wrong with a bike and helmet. Can't see why your brother would be offended by a gift like that.

He may be offended as that is a little extravagent. However, why are you and your brother not speaking? I mean what happened that caused this rift? If you want to get your nephew something - get him some hot wheels or something but I don't think I would buy the bike. Merry Christmas!

It might be innappropriate considering that your brother may want to be the one to buy his child his first bike. If you are going to get him a gift of that sort, then I would run it by your brother first. But since he may not respond to you, then you might want to think about getting your nephew something else. You could get him something fun and educational, which your brother should have no problem with.

I think it is totally appropriate. You could even try and be there when his son opens it and say to your brother something like, "Remember when you helped me learn how to ride a bike? Now you can show your son like you showed me." or something like that. Try and reach out on a positive note and make him feel happy. Be open and kind and tell him that you are sorry that you guys fell apart, but that you want to be close now and that you want to be friends. Make him realize how much he means to you so he will realize how much you want to be in touch with him. Just be honest and happy.Good luck!

Why would that gift be inappropriate? Because it's too expensive? It would be a wonderful gift, but maybe you should scale down a little bit. It might be the sort of gift he himself would like to give...

i think a gift card from toy are us would be better. If you are not sure what size of bike he needs. I think he would not be offended you are the aunt.
