Well, at 5'11, they may be worried that you'll be pushed around because you're a little small. They want to make sure that you don't make stupid mistakes, and want to make sure that you have the skills and vision to play high school basketball. Be sure to train by running to build up your endurance too, that way, you'll be able to run the court for longer and tire the other team out.

You would make a good guard if you don't grow. Even if you do you need to know how to handle the rock. Talk to your varisty coach for drills and practice. Play with the HS guys if given a chance ALL the time. Play all year round. Practice shooting off the drible at full speed, practice shooting off the pass, practice shooting from various ranges. You need to be able to hit the 3-point shot, you need to be able to hit 100% of all practice free throws (although realistically 95-90% is OK). Play defense... learn how to move without the ball if you don't have that. Work on fast breaks, last second shots and such. WORK OUT. Get stronger than you already are! Lift Weights and play b-ball.
Best of luck

Since it is unlikely you will grow another foot in height, perhaps 6 more inches, that will bring you to about mid 6 feet. Which would make you a SF, or SG. So you definitely need to know how to handle the ball. If not, practice alot of post moves and rebounding, and then you can be a Sir Charles Barkley type of a player. From how you describe yourself, Sir Charles is probably the best type of player for you.

You could be a shooting gaurd. I mean our jumper 's good from what you say. So i guess Sg should be good.
