Dark-Hunter Creed
We are Darkness. We are Shadow.
We are the Rulers of the Night.
We, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. We are the Guardians.
The Soulless Keepers.
Our souls were cast out so that we would not forewarn the Daimons we pursue. By the time they see us coming, it's too late.
The Daimons and Apollites know us. They fear us. We are death to all those who prey upon the humans.
Neither Human, nor Apollite, we exist beyond the realm of the Living, beyond the realm of the Dead.
We are the Dark-Hunters.
And we are eternal.
Yeah, yeah. Enough of the doom and gloom because, baby, that ain't us. You want to know what a Dark-Hunter is? We are what the intro says. We're Mad, Bad and Immortal. We're ancient warriors with attitudes who fight rough, and play hard.
We are the scary things that go bump in the night. And we love every minute of it. So when you think you're being watched. You just might be. The question is...is it something evil or is it one of us?

Definitely Anne Rice. She transformed vampires from a scary thing with fangs to an actual creature of interest.
I've read Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris and enjoyed their books, but when you're talking about the best in vampire literature, they don't stand a chance against Anne Rice. Those two turned vampires into sexy mystery solvers and monster murderers, which they never could've done if not for Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire" in the 1970's.
And I love the way Anne Rice writes...she can make anything sound beautiful. In "The Vampire Lestat", she describes Marius's house for a chapter, and I was captivated by the 3 page description of a mural on the wall. No one else can do that.

Though he's most definitely NOT the original, Bram Stoker.
1. He took the ideas in other books and combined it all into one book (perhaps even written better than some of the others).
2. He knew to stop after ONE BOOK! :P

In my opinion, Anne Rice, but only up to 'Queen of the Damned' and maybe including 'The Vampire Armand' and 'Blood and Gold'. After that she went a bit crazy and started to contradict herself and her books got really bad.

Without any doubts it's Anne Rice.
She was able to build up and enhance any of the old vampire legends. I can still remember when Interview with THE Vampire came out... reading it aloud with good friends around a campfire. (Too bad the movie was lousy!)
She can fuel the imagination and turn a great yarn...

E.) Sherrilyn Kenyon!! I love her, she is my fav. author. I suppose you could call her series vampiric, but instead of vampires she calls them Dark Hunters. Her supernatural series also includes Werehunters, which are like shapeshifters, and Dream Hunters, who come to you in your sleep, check out her webbie for the Dark hunters, you won't be disappointed. www.Dark-Hunter.com But I also like Anne Rice and LJ Smith too.
