Milli Vanilli were a duo (2 men) who were caught lip-synching on stage. Everyone made a big deal out of it and booed them. One of them couldn't take the pressure and started using drugs. He committed suicide a couple of years ago. The other one is still trying to make it in the singing business.

Wow, you've never heard of Milli Vanilli? There was a big blow up in the early '90's of this male duo whose cover was blown for lip synchin all of their songs. They caught during a performance when their record skipped. One of the guys committed suicide in '95 I think and the other is trying his hand at R&B though I don't think he's doing too well...

They were the original german pop duo who lip-synced to an entire album that was originally produced by two or three other proteges who (by the producer's standards) lacked the star quality and appearance that Milli Vanilli had, but had the voices of a true pop star.

She was a sweet old woman who lived at the end of a country lane in a small cottage who baked vanilla cookies for all the local children. Her name was used for a fake black singing duo with weird dance moves.

a semi famous pop group from the 80's, they got busted for "lip synching" as in moving lips while another more talented person sang in the backgroup.
They quickly faded out of sight,..one ended up killing himself.
