Because Israel is the state's bit'ch. Have you noticed that all the non-superpowers (basically Britain and Israel) have nukes and they're "yes-sir" nations to the US?

Israel has in no way threatened to apply their nuclear weapons while Iran needs to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. there's a city in Israel which won 6500 rocket assaults with the help of the Palestinians. in basic terms one city!! It replaced into on 60 minutes or a style of information classes; the Israeli confirmed the interviewer the rockets which Israel had stockpiled. Palestine has been firing rockets into Israel for years and Israel is finally superb back. Israel forcibly bumped off their Israeli electorate from Gaza. And the Palestinians did no longer something yet return the prefer with rockets! the shown fact that Israel has nuclear weapons isn't the clarification in the back of the turmoil interior the middle East.

Because they do not have a history of threatening to annihilate other countries, races or civilizations. Iran HAS. Also, Israel has a long-standing friendship with many western countries, as well as economic and diplomatic cooperation. It has long shown itself trustworthy and not a threat to the West. (Israel IS a threat to those who have sworn to destroy them, and they have a right to be defending themselves against that, as any country does.)

Also, it isn't that Israel is ALLOWED, like a little kid. It just bought and developed weapons, and was supported by Western countries for some good reasons. Again, through it all it has remained friendly and not a threat in any way to the West. Its longterm behavior has shown it to be in fact much more peaceful than most countries in the Middle East. If you doubt this, go to http://www.thereligionofpeace.com and do some more reading.

Also, the reason so much of the world (not just the U.S.) wants to keep nuclear weapons away from Iran is that:
1) its looney president has called for the annihilation of Israel and and U.S. and Britain.
2) the militant Islamist movement has a safe haven in Iran, and from there stirs up trouble in Iraq and other places. . .
3) the looney president and his government send money and weaponry to terrorists. Do you want him to give nuclear weapons to terrorists? I don't.

With all due respect, your attitude is very naive, shows lack of education, and shows you need to do some more reading. But I do commend you for coming here and asking the question and at least wanting to KNOW the whys of the situation. Good for you. :-) It's easy to get frustrated with all that is going on. . .it is complicated. Just study all sides for youself, and don't always believe what your friends say.

Yes, it is God forbid that the Iranins should be allowed nuclear weapons. THE IRANIANS HAVE CLEARLY EXPRESSED THEIR DESIRE IN DESTROYING THE STATES OF ISRAEL AND WIPING ISRAEL OFF THE MAP. THEY HAVE NOT EXCLUDED AMERICA EITHER.

Israel, on the other hand, would NEVER destroy people for no reason and ARE peace-loving people. Yahoo! Answers seriously needs to do a better job getting rid of the anti-semites here.

Although Israel, with South African help, is assumed to have nuclear weapons, she has never confirmed that it is true.
In terms of justification, in international relationships, this is a difficult question, as each nation is sovereign, but on moral grounds, I'd say the Israeli viewpoint would be quite understandable. In her short history, she has come perilously close to military annihilation on more than one occasion, and the possibility (as importantly as any actuality) of nuclear capability is a valuable deterrent. The Iran-Iraq war did not threaten annihilation, and nothing even approaching that level of threat has since been extant.

I will answer, even in the face of your malicious question. Look at the state of Israel. It is surrounded by the Sea on one side and enemies on the other three. If Israel is not allowed all weapons necessary to annihilate their enemies, then they will be annihilated themselves. Pretty simple. I think you probably wouldn't mind the latter occurring but that is short sighted. If they die, we lose the only ally we really have in the area. Without a real energy policy we have no hope of wresting the oil we need from the Arabs. You might say then that we could take the oil from them. Not that easy because the rest of the world would fight us to keep us from hoarding it. The end product of all the fighting would probably be destruction of the oil and fields and all out nuclear war. Oil is more important to US than any other product in the world. Without it we would cease to exist as a power, Super or otherwise.

Israel has not vowed to wipe a nation off the face of the earth. Israel just wants to dwell in peace in the land God gave them.

A horrible double standard.

Shimon Peres scares me:
"Whether or not Israel has nuclear weapons, the fact is that Israel is the only country threatened with destruction... Israel is not threatening any country. Weapons do not fire themselves, people fire them."

At least it is out now and the religious state can be challenged by the UN and US policy can be challenged in domestic courts, but come on, the leaders of Isreal see no problem in them being outed. They know they are too valuble to the US and thus are allowed leverage.

One day all religious states will parish and we rational thinking secularist will rule.

Its ok for Israel to have nukes for the same reason that its ok for the USA to have nukes.
And if you can't figure out the difference between the USA and Iran and realize that the same difference exists between Israel and Iran, well... maybe there is hope that you will someday.

Israel has had nuclear weapons for years. The western world's lack of knowledge of this is yet another example of the failure of the media, and another example of the hypocrisy of the Bush Administration.
