No, Santa is real! Except that he doesn't give presents to kids outside the american and european continent.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I was growing up I just got to the point that I knew it was really Mom leaving presents. I remember my little brother, when he was like 6 or 7, telling my Mom was Santa wasn't real. She told him that was fine, but if he doesn't "believe" in Santa he doesn't get a present from him. I just kinda outgrew Santa Clause, but "HE" always brought me something as long as I was living at home. I just think he's a fun idea, not a lie.

I don't really consider telling your kids there is a Santa a lie. I mean, believing in Santa is a kid's dream. It's part of their childhood. When they get older they will find out too many things in this world are not what they seem....why not let them have this happiness of believing in the big guy? You know what I mean? They are only children once.

I always wondered why parents would tell their kids about Santa and then agonize over when to tell them Santa is not real. There certainly was a St. Nicholas in history so why not teach about him instead? Then kids might actaully get an education and not fall into this capitalist clap trap.

Well, you'd have to watch the word "is" with "was". Saint Nicholas was a real person, and the way "Santa Claus" came about was the French saying "Saint Nicholas". If you actually say Saint Nicholas with a French accent, you get Santa Claus. But stating that he is real is not that bad of a thing. Of course one of the most traumatic things to a child is finding out that he is not real.

It's only lying if you don't believe it yourself. The night I discovered the truth about santa was the night when I realised just how real santa actually is. I was 8, me and my sisters made about 50 christmas stockings for our toys, including dolls house dolls etc. My mum found, and filled every single one of them, I sneaked down stairs and spotted her. Then I realised just how impressive santa is. No magic powers or flying reindeer. Just over worked over stressed parents, who managed to get it more or less right, every year.

sorry your mother wasn't able to teach you the same thing.

I really don't see the point of lying to kids. I would never tell my children there's a Santa Claus.

Santa is the meaning of giving and joy. Not the actual person. BTW, whats up with Daddy's Girl?

you're missing the point.

i don't understand why people have to ruin fun things.. why is it we can fantasize and yet our kids can't?

silly.. very, very silly.

what is it?

besides santa is real.... not just that there is santa and a bunch of them all over the place but the concept exists... people have had santa for ages... it's a holiday thing....

why not just pick on tax refunds.. now those things are FANTASY!
