John Brown was basiclly a fore-runner to the terrorist's we have now. Instead of using legeslation to free slaves (the south was trying, however the southern economy depended on their labor) he butchered a huge amount of Kansas and one or two other states. The south planned on phasing slavery out, if they did it immediatly the economy would crumble. And the blacks would be left starving and homeless. A shack is better than nothing.) Contrary to poupular opinon slaves where taken care of seeing as they cost large amounts of money from a trader.

More About the Film "John Brown's Holy War"

Martyr, madman, murderer, hero: John Brown remains one of history's most controversial and misunderstood figures. In the 1850s, he and his ragtag guerrilla group embarked on a righteous crusade against slavery that was based on religious faith -- yet carried out with shocking violence. His execution set off a chain of events that led to the Civil War.
