They're not afraid, they either just don't like the idea of it and would rather stay away or they just have less in common with them. Most men want to talk about sports, cars, electronics and things of that nature. Gay men on the other hand talk more about things that women find appealing, like fashion, cooking, etc. I'm not saying that there aren't exceptions, a lot of straight men cook and dress well. However, straight men would rather not be with their wives when they're talking about desingers and clothes and cleaning and decorating, so they PROBABLY have less reason to hang around a gay man who discusses the same things. Like i said, there are exceptions and not all gay men adhere to ONLY the above mentioned subjects but I guess the stereotype overrides the reality.

I think they're afraid that they'd also be recognized as gay that's why they give that attitude. I have a very open gay friend and straight guys love him because he's funny and open-minded. It would depend on the upbringing of those guys too (if they were taught that homosexuality is bad). One thing you should consider is getting them to actually talk to each other. Maybe the guys find it awkward to talk to him because they might say something offensive. I don't want to generalize but I think most shy/run away from something that would ruin their balance. If it doesn't make sense please disregard it. :)

Sometimes. But that's changing more and more each day. I'm a gay man and the majority of my friends are straight. My sexuality isn't an issue because we don't make it an issue.
Typically, straight men are afraid of gay men because they think that we'll hit on them. With a few exceptions, it's highly unlikely. What these men fail to realize is gay men know how to respect others and treat them with fairness.

I think what it is...Is straight men think other straight men will think their gay if they hang out with gay men. It sounds so simple but men are simple....That's for sure. I'm a girl and I have a few gay male friends and my boyfriend has no problem meeting us for a drink but he does get made fun of from his friends after wards if they see us out together. He just tells them to F off and they stop. So it's not all guys just most of them. hahaha

People are uncomfortable with the uknown. A lot of straight men haven't had exposure to gay men and therefore they are unknowledged about homosexuality. I don't think it is a full on threat of fear, i just think it's a lack of knowledge which leads to uncomfortableness. I

Some straight men are frightened that gay/bi men will make moves on them and/or try to convert them. Its a misconception but society is full of misconceptions.

Quick answer. Only homophobic guys are afraid of that. Lots of my friends are bi - both male and female. I don't know any gay guys, but I'd have no problem with hanging around with them.
And note, I'm heterosexual. Mostly.

It's probably that you really don't have much in common.
Why don't men hang around with women all of the time? It's because they like to do and talk about different things.

I find the gay guys seem to think it is OK to be touchy-feelly.
Doesn't make me afraid just annoyed and I avoid them after informing them NO!
