why not? I mean, you may not like to read poems, but you may find out that you are gifted writing poems. Who knows? Enjoy yourself while writing your poems, and save them for later. Then you can do a reality check on yourself ;)

If you can write a poem even after hating them, go ahead. Write a piece, leave it unattended for a week or more. Then take a look again. Possibly you will need to make corrections. Do it and then show it to your friends. Take note of the points of that friend who criticises it most (if he/she is serious) and try to make amends. Best of luck.

Well, you can't make a living writing poems unless they're music lyrics. If you hate it, don't bother.

Who cares what your friends say? If you hate writing them, don't write them.
