Stargazer lilies are my favorite flower, but I was wondering if there's a way I can grow them indoors. I'm totally unexperienced in plant caretaking, although I know I have a green thumb because i still have the plant that we grew as a class in nineth grade from a leaf from our science teacher's plant. I love that plant. Is there special dirt I'm supposed to use? Help!

are you trying to grow it over the winter? you'll have much better success with a spring planting because the days are not long enough in the winter to produce good blooms. do you have good artificial light? a solarium or skylight or a south facing bay window? lilies need lots of light to do well. i think that outside of the special conditions that exist in a greenhouse, it will be very difficult to grow a strong, sturdy, blooming lily. its best to buy fresh, plump bulbs in the spring and plant them outdoors where they will get minimum 6 hours per day of sunlight. you can plant them in a pot and bring them indoors to enjoy when the buds are just beggining to open. after the bloom is over, put the pot back outdoors in the sun and let the plant remain in place without removing any leaves (it needs these to produce enrgy in the bulb for next year) when frost hits, but before the ground is froze solid, cut off the tops and bury the bulbs about 6-8 inches deep. you can dig them up and repot the following spring, or just leave them in the ground and let them bloom there.
