This is a bit of a trick question here, because in saying "what five items" you kinda lead folks into thinking *small* hand-held stuff. :)

But having said that.

--One *pallet crate* of FOOD, enough to last me those 30 days, maybe five days *longer* than that, either in the event that I get hungrier than usual, need to barter food (some islands are more "deserted" than others), or end up having some "culinary accidents" with the K-rations, MREs, whatever they are.

Not to mention, it might take my "rescuers" a bit longer than 30 days to find me, in the event of bad weather. It never hurts to be *prepared*, right?

--One BIG Honking Swiss Army knife....with everything. The knife-edges, yes, but also the can-openers, scissors, fork and spoon too. I had one of these when I was younger, and though they *are* a big old mess to clean and maintain for years and years, for a 30-day scenario they are perfect. Really.

Just don't lose the toothpick. ;)

--One *blowtorch*, complete with igniter and fuel. Screw flint and steel, rubbing sticks together, I will stick with the highest-percentage method, thank you.

--One *unbreakable* (polyurethane insulated) Thermos. At least of a one-liter capacity. Why that and not a soft water bag?

Because the water bag doesn't come with a cup (the standard outer lid), and is fragile. The unbreakable Thermos, though it has poorer insulation than its vacuum-lined cousin, can be used as a hammer or bludgeon of last resort.

--One Emergency Blanket...with the one reflective side, and the other side dayglo orange....these things pack lightly, are big enough to be used as a primitive lean-to tent, and in colder weather (not all "deserted islands" are tropical! Many are *well north* of the Arctic Circle.) can keep you warm enough to stay alive without a fire.

Granted, this is a bit of a cheat here too....as I break down the pallet of food, I will have empty boxes, trash aplenty, and the crate pallet of wood *itself* to burn for at least starting campfires...

And the plastic shrink-wrap used to *wrap* the pallet crate can be reused as *condenser sheet* to catch dew and frost, melt it down into droplets of water to keep the thermos filled with fresh water....

Still, assuming the island isn't utterly barren of life, a body could survive fairly well on that list for the required 30 days. Of course, boredom would be an issue, but hey...I'd rather be bored and *alive*, thank you. ;)

I assume that I must have to stay on the island-otherwise I'm w/ lizardmama-
so... if I couldn't get a boat-
1. Buck Knife
2. Fishing line or string&hooks
3. plastic tarp (for shelter AND water)-I got a trick on how to get the water
4. mosquito net
5. Louisiana hot sauce
---if the line & hooks count as two separate items, I will leave the net @ home

509-u should bring a math book, 75% of you will be dead in a week- TV!?!- gimme an F'n break!
OH, ditch the hot sauce-I'm bringin' Carmen Electra (maybe she can sneak it in the crack of her a@@).
