As far as U.S. automakers are concerned it varies in a couple of categories. For instance, in the 1/4 mile distance the Ford GT was the winner for an American Production vehicle at 12.0 seconds. The Saleen S7 comes in at 10.8 seconds but is not built in the U.S.

In 0-60mph acceleration test, The Ford GT also took honors at 3.6 seconds, followed by the Dodge Viper SRT-10 at 4.4 seconds and the Corvette at 4.8 seconds.

And remember these are off the floor production vehicles we are referring to. And a quick note, your best value based on speed vs. sticker price: Chevy Corvette Z06.

TOP Speed
Production Cars:

Ford GT 201mph
Corvette Z06 197mph
Viper 185mph
Mustang GT500 182mph

Supercars made in USA
Saleen S7 twin turbo 235mph
Panoz 175mph ish.

The Mclaren F1 was built in the UK NOT the US. Top Speed was 240.6 mph and held the fastest car in the world for 10 years. The Bugatti Vayron hit 250mph about a month ago.

If you talking exceleration it's a whole new ballgame. Arieal Atom has to be right there. It's as fast as an Enzo to 100mph and costs $60k.

Maclerin. The F1 was, as leat until last year, the fastes American made car. With a top speed of about 220 miles per hour.

However, I don't know if the American Supercars can be concidered "production" cars since they are built to order. If you are refering to a mas produced car, then the Dodge Viper, and the Ford GT are probably at the top of the list.

Probably the Z06 'vette.....The S7 might qualify ..but it is made in such small numbers, some might argue the "production" part of your question....
