Well, my dad passed away before I could tell him. Although a part of me regrets not doing so, I understand that his religious upbringing was a strict one, and I don't think he would have had enough time to come to peace with it before he died. Perhaps it was more important to me that he die feeling proud of me and of the job he did as a father than for him to know the "real" gay me and spend his last days questioning his adequacy as a parent.
I told my mother later that year. She was a little stunned at first, and did the reflexive "Did someone do this to you?" and "Did I do something wrong as a mother?" stuff. But she handled it pretty well, and she's highly supportive. I feel very lucky.

My sister told my dad when I was 14. She was trying to deflect attention away from herself (because she was dating a 21 year old man at 16). My mom found out when I told her. I was 21. I don't know why I didn't tell her sooner.

My mom I think always knew. She didn't understand my marriage to a guy!
So when I actually "came out" it was no big deal. She just looked at me and said "Duh, what took you so long?"
Really, that's what my mom said.
Since then they've been wonderful.

I told them, they had no idea. I was fed up of being secretive about it and it was a huge weight lifted off my chest.

Mine never knew; my father died while I was young and my mother developed Alzheimers.

I told them. They weren't too happy. Eight years later they still aren't.
