Americans get into wars when it suits their needs and interests. There are lots of countries around the world that have dictatorships and that violate human rights. America chose to invade Iraq because Iraq's got oil. If you stabilize Iraq, you stabilize an oil source that fuels the growth of the American economy. Let's not forget 9/11, either - some Americans were in favour of the war in Iraq because they believed that the Iraqi government was somehow involved in 9/11, although there's no concrete proof of this theory. In other words, the war in Iraq made it look like the American government was doing something to retaliate against the the attack on the United States, although it was never officially fought for that reason. Strangely enough, though, the government never corrected people who thought otherwise. I don't agree with the Iraq war and I never have, but it does make sense in a way. Every country wants to secure its economic interests.
Iraq is like Vietnam in that Iraq's culture is very different from that of the United States, and the Americans rushed into fighting without a good idea of just what they were getting into. People in Iraq fight differently from people in the United States. They also think differently. The Americans thought that they could fix Iraq using pure military force, and this was a big mistake on their part.
Although the American operation in Iraq is certainly failing, you also need to consider the successes of the operation. They did manage to overthrow the dictator - at least give them that. Now they're left in a country with little infrastructure and complex social problems that they can't profess to understand completely. Of course they're having trouble! Most Americans I know now realize the shortcomings of their foreign policy.
With all that being said, I don't think that you should be hating so much on the United States. Lots of Americans don't agree with their government's spending policies. They wish that they could have better funded social programs. The problem is that the United States has gotten itself into a tight spot and has lots of enemies. They can't just scrap their military. Even if the U.S. isn't the best at everything they do, lots of people still want to live there. All countries have their problems.

They will deal with the war the same way did with bay of pigs because it's the same war with the same cover ups for the same hidden motives. We're just protecting our businesses. Trying to gain new territories. And make governments more compatible with ours.
America only helps the countries it has something to gain from. The terrorist attack was either set up so we'd have a reason to go in to middle east or made because someone got pissed off in a bad deal. That country was ran by dictatorship for how long by the same guy? We are not initially there to help that is just a bonus to look good.
Either we find the so called "terrorist". We make the country likes ours so we can manipulate the general population and have steady business. Or we get a new territory to play with. Think of all the resources.
How many countries still today live under dictatorship where people are murdered and live unjustly lives? But this country just happens to have a resource that we need badly.
Maybe forcing a democracy would be useless to people who wouldn't be educated enough to know what to vote for. It might be a false freedom but, I'm sure America would be in control every step of the way.

Apples and Oranges. "Winning" is non-applicable. We have never had a philosophy of "winning" like we did in WWII against the Germans, Italians and Japanese. We knew who our enemies were and we kicked their ***--period. This conflict is over tyranny and terrorism. The Iraqis are free from a tyrant and possibly we have altered terrorist plans. Terrorism will not go away unless the entire world makes it a priority--because it's hasn't yet. We will "win" the war if the Iraqis take the opportunity given to them and maintain a free and democratic society. Rough start, I must agree. There was a miss-calculation that forced intervention by an outside power, even to oppressed people, is considered occupation.

Listen up (deleted), 'cause you are so woefully ignorant it pains me to read your (poorly formed and based thoughts). The American military is what has provided you the opportunity to be such an idiot and is now doing the same for the Iraqis. The American military, with help from a handful of allies, has provided the Iraqi people an opportunity to shape their government and their country in a way they might not otherwise have had. It is up to them, the Iraqi people, what they do with their opportunity. We wish them success and the American military is there to give them every possible chance. It is the good will of the American people and the efforts of the military that hold Iraq together, tenuously to be sure, while they Iraqi people try and establish themselves. The American military is proving itself, once again, as the most capable in the world and you are too stupid to grasp it. Pull you head out of your (4th point of contact) (and get a clue).
Editted for tone.

Simple:
We tell the Iraqis: Ok, we tried to give you a free country...and you won't do your part. Screw ya...all the towel heads in this country are not worth another American life.
Then we arm the Kurds...tell them that all the land they take over, they can have. In six months, all the Iraqis will either be dead or will have hauled tail outa there. The Kurds will have their new Kurdistan, with lots of oil, and it will be very friendly towards the US.

Hey I admit we are losing and that there really is know way of winning. I have solice in the fact that I didn't vote for the idiot that put us in the war. I know it's not the fault of our troops, they are in a battle that was impossible to win from the start.

Humiliation,is the least of our problems that will stem from that scenario. How to survive a fullon attack from the rest of the world, who unfortunately have perceived that we are a nation of "easybeats".
