My parents split up awhile back, and my dad moved to west texas. My mom has been looking for a roommate, and i asked a few of my older friends. One of my friends of 3 years,male,21, asked if my mom would consider letting him move in for 300 a month. My mom said she would think about it,but asked me to look up a renters contract online. Has anyone been through this, what were some problems you faced etc.
Also we both are kinda queesy about letting a male move in considering i have a 2 yr old daughter, but considering i've known him for 3 years we went to school together and work together we trust him. Also he said he would help around the house etc.

Could you please give some advice.

Also this is a 4 bedroom house with 3 of us living in it.

4 if he moves in.

I apoligize if this is in the wrong section, thats just what yahoo gave me and i couldnt find a catergory for it.

Trust is not an issue we trust him very much, i am as a matter of fact a single mom, so id idnt want my daughter getting too attached to my friend. She see's her dad but once every now and then and since he would be th eonly male figure in the house we dont know if that would affect her in a bad way.

Well im not sure why you would even have it in your head he would do anything to a 2 year old but if that is the case I am not sure why you would want anyone living with you. Office depot has documents that are pre written. The only thing you would run into is the fact he would borrow a car/ eat food/ not buy toiletries etc. Luckly she is a woman and as long as he isn't a cross dressor shouldn't have to worry about that. Most the problems are with two women or men who live together and they think that the rent covers underware and clothing of that person.

If you both are not quite sure about a male in the house with all females, maybe you should look for a female roommate. But having a guy around to help is a good idea too, heavy lifting, repairs, etc. that could save you both money too. If you trust him you could always give it a try to see how it works. I would assume that some rules will be put in place to make sure everyone has their privacy.

well if you fell weird with him moving in, even the slightist feeling, then find someone else for a roommate. But if you still decided that he will live with you then yea find a renters contract online and make him sign it, because money problems can make the best of friends become the worst of enemys. Well Good luck in what ever decision you make

If he has been your friend for 3 years you should know him well enough to say yourself if it "feels right" and I can't imagine he would be any kind of a problem for your daughter. It sounds like you are a single mother though, do you have trust issues with men? Your question kind of reads that way.

Whoever you have move in,,,,, set the ground rules beforehand...and have the person sign off on the rules...Ask the person if they think the rules are fair....so there is no confusion about them...Some rules to think about: no guest rule, they would install their own phone line, cable tv. Separate location in refrigerator to keep their own food. How much of the utilities they would pay for, if any.....and when the rent check is due. Also let the person know that common areas are to remain free from any of his stuff...anyway,....hope these hits help.

Your mother has the right idea. Absolutely DO NOT let him rent without a contract. That is asking for trouble. I would recommend you speak with an attorney.

You should find an agency in your area that hooks you up with people that match exactly what you are looking for. I would prefer a female, since you have a little girl. Up to you guys.
