The rule is - eat where everyone else is. If there is no one else there, it's probably for a reason. Even Mexicans get sick so follow the crowds

I live in San Jose del Cabo BCS(outside Cabo)and I can definitely say that the tacos here are amazingly good! In fact, the best food I've ever eaten is here in this area. If you're used to Taco Bell, then you've never really had a taco. No one knows better than the Mexicans how to make a taco. And the trimmings they provide...wow! As to safety, I've eaten tacos all over Baja(in restaurants and at stands)and have never been sick. As others have advised, eat where you see the most Mexicans are eating. They're just like anyone else, they don't want to be sick either!

Yes, they are the best and most authentic Mexican tacos you will ever have. About the safety, its a hit or miss, you can't tell usually the most popular are the safest.

But definitely have excellent tacos all over Mexico.

Although in Mexico City you should be a bit more aware of the street stands, a lot of people will give no dog meat instead of real meat and you will not know the difference, except that dog meat is a bit more tender. (NO JOKE, I AM VERY SERIOUS)

Great question, hope i have a great answer. I live about 15 minutes from Reynosa, Tamps, Mex, and we usually go have tacos every weekend, and let me tell you, i have never gotten sick. The only way to know though, is just by looking at the stand. Is there flies everywhere? Do they serve them in a disposable plate, or a plate you have to wash? Do the other people that are eating there have a "mmmm mmm good" look on their face? I've even seen some wear plastic gloves! So you should be safe, unless you go eat at a stand that's far away from civilization, and there are no dogs around! (j/k)

tacos in mexico are SO unbelievably delicious!!!! skip the taco bell.
but i've been to mexico 16+ times, and i've seen these little night stands. those tacos are SO good, but they're NOT safe to eat. the food isn't checked, like here in the US. the people that work in these little night stands selling the food, i can assure you, that they DON"T WASH THEIR HANDS when they make your food.
they're handling your food, and dirty money at the same time. money that has been touched by SO MANY hands.
and the meat of the tacos, seeing as there's no refrigeration outside, the meat can probably go bad, and it can really mess up your stomach.
but i have to admit, when i go to mexico, i'm a tourist, but my cousins who are born and raised in mexico, sometimes will take me to a stand or 2 and we'll eat. i'm not saying that ALL of the stands are dirty and unsanitized, but you just gotta be careful from which stand your buying from. but there's no easy way to check.
but my cousins KNOW that i'm not to sure about eating off the street like this, but i will eat some tacos and some other delicious food that is sold.
but your best bet is to NOT eat the food at all. i'm sure that the same food that is old in the little night stands can easily be found at a good mexican restaurant there as well.
but if you REALLY want to eat at the stands, go ahead. i'm not saying that your gonna DIE if you eat from one of the stands, and some people don't get sick at all, but some people do.
take care.

DEPENDS WHERE AND WHO RUNS THE TACO STAND. I KNOW A FEW GOOD STANDS WHERE THEY ARE VERY GOOD AND CHEAP. THEY USE COW MEAT AND NOT DOG MEAT LIKE OTHERS TEND TO.

IF THERE IS ALOT OF PEEPS, THE FOOD IS GOOD AND FEEL FREE TO JOIN IN IF YOU WISH. IF THE PLACE IS LONELY, RUN AND NOT STOP.

BUT THERE ARE SOME GREAT PLACES TO EAT TACOS. IN TIJUANA TACOS EL FRANCES, EL GUERRO, ARE THE BEST.
TACOS EL GORDO IS AVERAGE AND VERY WELL KNOWN AND EXPENSIVE.
SO TACOS EL FRANCES or el franc as known better ARE REALLY GOOD AND FAIR PRICED. THERE CARNE ASADA QUESADILLAS ARE THE BEST CAUSE THEY ARE BIG, LOTS OF CHEESE,MEAT AND YOU CAN GET FILLED, BUT EVERY THING IS GOOD THERE. SO GO HUNGRY AND RETURN HAPPY THERE.
I WISH YOU WELL.

Yes it is the best! They give you the homemade tortillas with the real mexican flavored meat. It is fantastic. There is a place in Puerto Vallarta at the EnGracias Tequilla factory called the Real Mexican Taco Bell. They are the bestest.

no, unfortunately - but man are they good!! They don't have the FDA like they do here, so you have to be really careful where you buy food. Your safest bet is to buy from a restaurant. You have to be careful, out of the 5 or so times I have been to Mexico, only once did I not get sick - and I am Mexican-American, but still a foreigner just the same.

No its not a good idea unless you consume allot of tequila along with it. At least you can blame the reaction you may experience on the tequila. Try to remember their are no health department codes for traveling night stands in Mexico that I am aware of.

Happy Holidays!

No. I wouldn't any where near the border either. Food is not regulated in Mexico like it is here in the States. There are great place to eat in Mexico, but stay off the streets and away from border cities.
