I feel that it takes away our freedom of speech first of all. Second, I think we are so concerned about not offending anyone we are offending everyone! Life is to short for someone to get upset about a wish of good will to them, regardless of whose God it is that inspired the offer of a "Merry" day. If we could just get past the fact that we are so offended that someone doesn't know who or what we believe in (not that people advertise it on their sleeve), that might stop and think, "Wow that person wished me a nice day, maybe its a product of their up bring to be nice friendly and courteous no matter what our differences are" (God that would be nice if we could all do that)!
Um, uh oh, sorry, I will step off of my soapbox. I will try and be a little more direct...
It bothers the heck out of me that I have to make sure not to hurt someone's feelings when I am wishing them a good day, a happy day, a day full of happiness. People need to lighten up and quit trying to make others conform to what they feel is "pc" and respectful, maybe then we would all get along better. Complaining because of how I say have a great day to you is a real undermind way of trying to control me. AND I WILL NOT CONFORM TO IT! Have a MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS! or for those with a good sense of humor a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a MERRY NEW YEAR! (im sure im going to get stoned for this)
Have a GREAT day!

It is because not everyone celebrates Christmas. Also lots of people who don't celebrate Christmas do celebrate other holidays at this time. Hanukkah, New Years, Yule, Kwanzaa, among others.
Stores want to be friendly to all their customers. Wouldn't you?
This has nothing to do with stifling freedom of speech either. Look at it from the other side. If we forced stores to instruct employees to say "Merry Christmas" wouldn't we be infringing on their freedom to say what they want?
Also, you are only partially correct about no Christmas without Christ. There were holidays held at this time many centuries before Christianity existed. In Europe both Saturnalia and Yule were celebrated. The Christians basically moved in and took over these holidays as Christianity spread, and adopted many of the pagan traditions. Evergreens, gifts, burning the Yule log, New Year resolutions just to name a few all have roots in the older pagan holidays. So if the Christians didn't pick December 25 to use as a date for Christ's birthday, many people would likely still be celebrating the old holiday in much the same way.
In closing. I don't think the stores are making a big deal out of it. They are just offering a friendly greeting of "Happy Holidays" to people.
A small minority of Christians with nothing better to do but complain about things are the ones making a big deal out of it. Don't let them influence you and make you get upset about something as ridiculous as that.
Have a Happy Holiday season.

Like you said, Christmas is a holiday established to celebrate Christ. If this offends anyone, don't celebrate Christmas. Everyone is trying to prove to the world they are not incensitive, racial, bias, or prejudice. Everyone wants to be polictical correct. Calling something what it is not is not "correct" regardless of intentions. Everyone has some racial, bias, or prejudice thoughts and intentions. It is because we are human. Get over it and just be human. Let those who want to celebrate Christmas do so and leave them alone. If the word Christmas offends you, good. Don't take off from work and don't buy gifts for family and friends. If you do and Christmas offends you, you are the biggest pile of crap their is. Businesses that do not want to use the "Christmas" word should not benefit financial from the holiday.

somewhat, Eragon *is* a ripoff of movie star Wars and The Lord of the earrings. Harry Potter does have some similarities to The Lord of the earrings, yet all those who's study more advantageous fantasy than only those 2 titles will understand (a) there are also a lot of alterations and (b) many fantasies borrow from Tolkien to a much better or lesser volume - he casts a lengthy shadow over our style. each and each and every time some thing will become wildly accepted, there are continuously those who'll hate it because this is accepted. Then there are those who don't like it, do not imagine it advantages to be accepted, and could do even with they could to cajole persons they ought to not like it both. affirming that it copies from an older and allegedly more advantageous suited artwork is one way of doing this. possibly they truly believe this, possibly not having study some thing interior the style outdoors both works, or possibly they a twin of trolling.

Employees are not allowed to say Merry Christmas because (heaven forbid) it might offend someone. These days it's politically incorrect to offend anyone...except Christians, of course. I think it's disgusting.

Christmas is not the only holiday in December....get it now? You would not like it if they said Happy Hanukkah now would you? That said, they should not judst recognize ONE holiday.
You can blame political correctness all you want...the fact is that it is a selfish act to want to only hear Merry christmas.
