It's an oldie (1949) famous for a "long take" (nearly four minutes) with the camera planted in the back seat of the two robbers' car. We go along for the ride and endure the suspense when the dude goes in to rob the bank and a foot cop comes along and the driver (a woman) gets out of the car to deal with him. We're still there when the bank alarm goes off and the dude runs out with the $$$ and we tear off on the getaway and the couple are frantic.... Whew! All of this caps a string of boom-boom-boom stickups that's got the adrenaline already high. (There's another rush-from-robbery later on.)

Don't confuse this GUN CRAZY with a Drew Barrymore movie from 1992.

And if u love movies ... THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY was a landmark in 1903, for its narrative structure (cross-cutting between locations).

Have any thoughts about these? Stick 'em up!

No, never seen it and I like classics. I saw Bonnie & Clyde, Iiked it. I also liked Set It Off, and ocean's Eleven. My favorite is INSIDE MAN. It is the most clever movie about a bank heist I have ever seen. It's purely clever without alot of violence. In fact, this robber was so brilliant, he robbed the owner of the bank without harming a soul, without taking a dime(and there was plenty including jewels). Yet he got away in the end with what the bank owner valued the most , his identity safely secured. He robbed the bank to steal the proof this guy was not the honorable citizen he was portraying.

Is "The Great Train Robbery" the one set on a train heading to Sheffield station where they contact the police who are waiting to arrest the robbers when the train pulls into the station? That was the first ever "heist" film. I've not heard of "Gun Crazy" before but it sounds really good, I'll look out for a copy and give it a watch. Does "Dog Day Afternoon" count? If it does that's probably my favorite.

EDIT: K... is thinking of "Quick Change"

It has to be "Heat" with Robert Deniro, Val Kilmer, and Al Pacino. The shootout at the bank is one of the most realistic and engaging example of squad based (shoot & move) tactics in an urban environment. Definitely check this out of you haven't seen it already...

I think that Inside Man was a real good bank heist movie. It was more so how they did it that I thought was brilliant.

As far as heists go, I liked Oceans 11. They were sneaky little sh!ts, and I think they earned that money.
